Just moved to the area, first visit to the Spar shop, didn't have time to look around properly, hope to next shopping day.
Excellent selection of grocery linesnPrices ok for a country townnNice place to top up.
Wonderfully friendly and helpful staff.
Amazing beautiful awesome worker they help so much I didn’t know where stuff was and i ask and they told me show me it
This is without a doubt the worst supermarket I have ever shopped in, not just nationally but internationally too. Considering I’m over 60, I’ve shopped in a lot of supermarkets in my life time, in a lot of different places. I moved to the area around Christmas time and have been waiting for improvement but it’s clear there isn’t going to be any.nnThey have the most miserable array of stock I’ve ever encountered, which means if you want something, 9 times out of 10 they won’t have it. I’m not talking about fancy foods such as pate or smoked salmon you can definitely forget them I’m talking about basic stock such as bread, decent cheddar cheese such as Mainland or Cracker Barrel instead of the tasteless Bega or Norco variety, biscuits and even items such as bin liners.nnRecently, the items I’ve wanted to buy which they didn’t have include: Mainland or Cracker Barrel cheese, hummus dip, sour cream, bread, a dish washing wand, large bin liners, Bushman repellent, bottled water, Deli frozen chips, meat such as mince or steak and an array of other items. The standard excuse is “it didn’t come in when we ordered it”. I don’t buy that excuse because I’ve asked my son who lives about an hour away if they have difficulty getting certain items and he said they never have problems buying what they want. Lack of stock is never an issue.nnFurther, I’ve started going to IGA in Yarraman and they always have stock. I can only surmise that the cashiers have been told to blame the companies or delivery drivers if asked about certain stock which is non existent. Not long ago, they didn’t even have plastic bags yes, that’s right, they blamed the delivery so you had to buy the cloth type bags. Then of course they ran out of those, so you were unable to buy any bags whatsoever.nnIf you smoke cigarettes, you can practically guarantee they won’t have what you want. They only put in one order which arrives on Wednesday. Frequently, the cigarettes you want haven’t come in the order. Once again shifting the blame on the company who supplies them. And yet Yarraman always have the cigarettes you want to buy. Over Christmas, the cigarette cupboard was nearly completely empty at Spar. They had next to no stock for 3 weeks. I suppose it would be good incentive if you wanted to give them up.nnThe selection of fresh vegetables is appalling. Not only is the quality bad a day left of shelf life before wilting, for example but the prices are out of this world. A couple of examples being $17.99 a kilo for standard beans, which were only good to use that night. Mushrooms were also around that price.nnAnd lastly, the actual service from the majority of cashiers is very poor. Most of them won’t bother to pack your groceries in bags for you, you have to do it yourself and their general demeanour/customer service is poor.nnThe only reason I gave one star is because they are open from 7-7.nnI have given up going to Spar unless I absolutely have to. I now shop at IGA in Yarraman, which is only a 10 minute drive. My son brings fresh fruit and veggies when he visits, or I buy them from the Oasis Supermarket, which has a better selection of fruit and vegetables which are also fresher. I was even unable to buy some basic lettuce from Spar!nnSo after that mammoth review, I would definitely not recommend Spar. Considering the population in the area, they should consistently carry a reasonable variety of stock without consistently using the excuse “it didn’t come in the order”. The only reason it wouldn’t have come in the order is because they didn’t order it in the first place.nnI moved from a remote area in which the population was considerably lower and I never had any problems buying any items I wanted.nnIf you need groceries, I would recommend taking the 10 minute drive to IGA at Yarraman or further afield to Kingaroy or similar and giving Spar a big heave ho.
