I have been there now several times with various inquiries and staff have always been exceptionally friendly and helpful. 

Best to come well-prepared but also with an understanding that this is not a large office and it can get busy during peak hours. 

I am glad we have such great Spanish representation in Melbourne!

Worst customer service I have ever experienced - the RUDE english speaking woman hung up on me , when I rang back I got the Spanish speaking person who could only say "email" - when I asked for the other woman's name - and to be changed over to the other woman - again I was hung up on. This person needs to NOT be in a customer service position. 
I suggest she finds a role where no interaction with humans is required. - actually wouldn't want her working with animals either - maybe the prison system.

I cannot speak more highly of the service and attention I received from the staff at this Consulate. They treated me with the utmost of respect and were amazingly helpful. Fantastic service.

If you are a non-Australian passport holder but have Australian Permanent Residency, this is the best place to apply for a Schengen Visa. They allocated a specific time frame from 10 AM to 2 PM. No appointment, no stupid documents, no frills are required. Friendly and easy going staffs. If your documents are complete, you are 90% guaranteed to get the visa in less than 2 weeks time. Mine was granted in 1 week for 30 days multiple entry. Muchas Gracias!
