This station serves its purpose, but it has some areas of improvement. As a pedestrian it's very annoying to access the station from Southland and it lacks a lot of seating and myki top up machines. It seems like a massive missed opportunity to not connect the station in any way directly through Southland, either through some type of covered walkway separated from the car park or a direct path on a raised bridge, but alas it wasn't meant to be.
At most metro train stations parking is free. Southland is not, it would actually be cheaper to park in the city than park your car at Southland and take the train in!!!
Never ceases to amaze me how poorly they design stations in this country. Melbourne, hot n humid 4 months of the year with a beating sun. Raining, freezing artic winds 4 more months. So how do they design a new station? Half the platform uncovered including the ramp and ticket barriers. Great to get wet as you all line up to swipe in or out. Or get dehydrated if summer. Disabled seats - metal and in full boiling sun so they heat up to burning status. Toilets - oh if your dying for a leak be prepared. Money only extends to one set and on one side only it must be assumed City bound passengers with the longer journey ahead carry a pee bottle for the journey so you better be able to run. The only shelter around on platform two? The furthest away from the entrance you can get and opposite end to the ramp. Geez some people in the PTV really need to be out of a job.nI’m assuming the people that say it’s well designed have never been to other cities, countries or are extremely easily pleased.
Southland is a new modern railway station alongside of Westfield's Southland Shopping Centre in Cheltenham. Thus, as well as being welcomed by local PT commuters, this new station is great for shoppers wanting to get to Southland Shopping Centre by train. It's on the Frankston, Sandringham, Cranbourne and Pakenham lines.nnThe station has sheltered seating restrooms, and bicycle racks but no car parking.
Brand new. Very modern. Access path to shopping centre is direct. Little platform shelter on platform 2 near entrance and toilets though.
