Firstly, they have $20 all you can eat wings 2 choices, buffalo or smoked wings and a platter for 2 @ $50 which was not on the website menu. We opted for separate picks, came out to $88 for the picture - but for a BBQ night out it really hit the spot. SSS wings are smokey yet sticky, and it permeates the meat, nothing like a Nando's or a charcoal chicken - it's tender and inviting. The short rib and brisket were beautifully fork tender. No dryness at all, even towards the end when it got room temperature the meat was luscious. Again, you could taste the smoke on every bite and the fat on the brisket was rendered perfectly. Decor is fine, it's one accessible table in the front and one long table round the back of the store. There's a roll of self serve butchers paper to line the table with mounted on the wall. It's great to have the option for great American-style BBQ in this part of Sydney, go if you want to get your fix.
1/5 for service. I simply asked if they sold snack packs while looking at the menu and by the time I decided what to order she already prepared the food. Really unacceptable service. I would rate it 0/5 but the speed of preparation was impressive. 4/5 for the food. The meat was pretty good. The chilli sauce tasted weird and not good but the garlic sauce was very good. 2/5 for the cost. Not worth $30 for that snack pack 5/5 for the drink. Smokey peanut butter was a very unique taste that stayed in my mouth for an hour. Very good thickshake. 3/5 overall
Al does a great smoked brisket that is super juicy and falls apart in your mouth. The house made sausage has a good snap to the texture and slightly smoky flavour. Will return to try other menu items.
I've started dreaming about the chicken burgers here, the perfectly seasoned, juicy fried chicken is so addictive. Im looking forward to trying everything on the menu.
The Fried Chicken Burger with the hot sauce is actually the best I’ve tasted in Sydney by far. The chicken is huge and so crispy. I get one at least once a week now.
Amazing food very tender very yummy just amazing food to eat very friendly staff the owner is very friendly. The place is clean very hygienic and the food absolutely delicious
Small eat in/take away shop in Rockdale, and the meat is truly amazing, we had the burger with a nice big piece of slow cooked brisket, and it was so tender and so full of flavour…!!!
Best burgers I've had in a long time, picture perfect and super filling, legendary feed!!!
Great flavour meats, sides begging for one to indulge, some dessert and drinks but the BBQ is why you should go. Fantastic staff, very little parling out front but public parking a short walk away. Also directly opp Rockdale train station. It may seem a bit pricey if your not aware of food cooked like this, its actually fairly priced.
Saturday night and the wind is in our sails. I'm trying to get my mate out the house before he eats any more supplements for what looks like s very entertaining lady's night. "Brother, take me to your local!" My ignorance will have to be excused and forgiven. Fore while I've never explored Rockdale before, I'm very, very glad that through a series of cravings and IG algorithms, I happened upon Smokin' Al's BBQ, minutes from my herbaceous mate's place. The small yet inviting space is reminiscent of any neighbourhood Chook shop you'd find out in the Sydney burbs. The smell is undeniably smokey but also laden with other flavours that you'll know and understand why later. We copped the mixed platter and a double serving of wings for a pair so quadruple. This spot is all halal so there's no pork on the fork and guess what, it doesn't matter. Beef I feel at times, gets a wrap for being "boring" or is sorely underrated for its ability to produce flavour. Beyond the staple brisket, the pulled beef was super tender and evenly balanced with sweet salty. The source gave it that extra jump in candied, spicy sweetness. This sauce I found, lends super well to the Uber savoury sausage. The sinew of so soft on the brisket that you can easily eat it with a spoon, yet doesn't lose its fleshy structural quality. These wings though were the CRÈME DE LA CRÈME OF WINGS! I'm sure the wingtips/buffalo style are done similar but either which way not ordering a serving of these while there would be a crime. Crispy, smoky, flash-fried goodness with a dried spice and light sauce/basted assist – an earthy flavour of hickory with sweet and sour components that coat every nook and cranny of the crispy exterior. Passionate review done. Smokin' Al, the pleasure was all ours.
