Well… for the atmosphere, beautiful gardens, kids play area and bar service, this place still deserves two stars. The food!!! Well… The entree of duck liver parfait was previously a standout dish we always began our dinner with. It DID not meet expectation! Bitter, incorrect consistency and a foul jelly. Pardon the pun but it was foul. We complained about the Parfait to the waitress and was met with a vague look, and no apologies or an offer for a replacement. Saturday night, three meals we wanted to order were not available and this is at 6pm. Chicken schnitzels came out and they were half the size they normally were and my 6 year old could have presented them better! Fancy names and fancy prices for standard food. Not happy jan! I recommend trying the hotel down the road for a chicken schnitzel. Sorry to be blunt and leave such a negative review but when complaining doesn’t even received a simple “I’m very sorry about that” I feel I have no option.
Beautiful setting in and around the old historic pub. Plenty of seating but you need to book. The outdoor areas are well kept and look inviting, with plenty of cool shade. Public area and toilets were functional and clean Food is very well presented and smaller portion sized. Unfortunately the price did not reflect the portion size or the service provided by the seemingly annoyed staff. One of our party ordered a Medium Rare steak and received medium well. The variety of beers is also good, but, alas, horrendously overpriced. But that won't stop the surcharges. If you're part of a large group 8 or more you'll cop a 10% surcharge. If you're visiting on a Sunday you'll cop an additional 10% surcharge. Public holidays are an additional 15%. Pay by card and cop an additional 1.5%. I don't mind paying top dollar for a great food and drink experience, but what we got here would be best described as "Country Service at City Prices"
Just off the Hume Hwy is this little gem. The pub has been renovated but still maintains it's original unique features. The food is great and the staff will do anything for you including making a mocktail even if they have no idea what to make. They will still give it a go. The accommodation out the back of the hotel is fantastic! You can choose either a stable or barn room. We had the stable room and it was a pleasure to stay in. Bonus is breakfast included and a complimentary drink on arrival. The downside was that because there is nothing around and the hotel hours are short there is no one to answer any after hours questions. I needed more milk in the morning and there wasn't anyone to help. I had to drive down to the service station to get some more. Overall the place is great!! Highly recommend.
We were driving from Melbourne to Sydney and wanted good food. Saw this on the map and had an unexpectedly wonderful meal and experience at this location. Forgot to take photos but the ones in the other reviews are perfect. Rolling hills, a lovely beer garden, quaint shopping. Perfection.
Stopped got a EV charge. I went over for a meal..pleasantly surprised. Had the chicken snitzel, delicious & very reasonable price. Menu had a varied selection to choose from. Eating inside or outside in courtyard. Received meal within 20 min of order. Worth calling in again when in the area. Parking: Plenty of parking out front.
2 star food in a 5 star location. We visited today on the recommendation of a friend. It must have been a while ago because the food today was terrible and we noticed people around commenting similarly. We opted for a burger and chips for lunch, with a calamari starter. The calamari was cold and undercooked. The chips were the most unappealing I’ve ever had, and I can’t remember the last time I was served this style of crinkle cut chips - who likes them like that now days? They were also cold, were covered in something that tasted like chicken salt, and were pale and undercooked. I couldn’t eat them. All the servings were small and on the whole we couldn’t help but feel ripped off and very disappointed. Lovely setting but not worth the $80+ we spent on food.
We were a party of 14. the Sir George was full. It was way understaffed. The wait-staff pulled out all stops to get everyone served as quickly as possible. With our party, I thought it would take at least half an hour to get our orders out and have them all there at once. they did in less than twenty minutes. Well done everyone. Even though the pace was hectic for them they were all very pleasant, polite and accommodating. As ours was a birthday celebration, I needed somewhere to store the cake and then prepare it just before serving it. They happily kept it in the cool room for us and then gave me a private place to complete the finishing touches as well as providing me a silver platter to sit it on. Even though our booking was from 12:00 to 2:00 it wasn't until 3:30 before we decided to pack and leave and they didn't do anything to encourage us to leave. I was last to leave and they waited until it was just me before beginning to clear the tables. If there is one complaint, it was the mashy peas. It goes well with meat pie and potato, or with shepherds pie, but not with fish. In any case, thank you all for doing a great job. Cheers
Beautiful setting. We stayed in the stables room - lovely room but expected more for the very hefty price tag of $475 a night. Breakfast supplied in the fridge! Tho’ they do give you their sourdough bread for toast. Restaurant for dinner has a small menu made smaller because they didn’t have the two items we ordered for starters. Again prices are quite hefty for the fare: I ordered the zucchini veggie burger which was quite dry with overcooked bread. The fish and chips for $29 was also ordinary. No table service for ordering or drinks so you are constantly up and down. Overall not really a place I would return to or stay. As a quick break on the way to somewhere it’s ok.
Yummy food which was well priced. We stopped for lunch on a road trip. The veggie burger was really yummy and they had good GF options. The pub was really nice and would have been great to be there on a sunny day to sit in the garden. Dietary restrictions: Gluten Free
We would like to that the staff and manager for looking after us with our take away on Sunday lunch they are so helpful we have eaten in before but at the show ground in the van. My husband is so fussy he totally enjoyed the burger. As this is very close to us we will be back to dine in. Amazing the staff and management keep up the good work love the Sir George
