Very mid. Got the Kung Pow Chicken which was majorly lacking in chicken for that price. Rice not included which is also overpriced for the quality. Dumplings were good. Overall I’d say it’s an overpriced average restaurant.
What a fabulous menu! It’s exciting and like nothing offered in Brisbane. Food is outstanding and service is exemplary. Each dish is like an explosion of flavour in your mouth. Exquisite and balanced. This is a must visit restaurant.
Great food but not super kid friendly. We sat in here when we first moved into the area a few months ago. Our child is a little picky, and we’re very aware and apologetic about it and make up for it with our “over-ordering.” However, the service and clientele felt a bit strange towards us on the Friday night we went to dinner, around 6:30pm. The service didn’t give our 5 year old an entree plate/bowl or water glass until we had to finally ask once our mains were delivered. I don’t mean to sound rude with this review, it’s a great establishment, but it’s not like it’s a 3, or 2, or 1 hat venue. The layout feels very open to families. We were made to feel as though our 5 year old was not welcomed to eat with us. I’m a big fan of spicy food, and everything we ordered was great. It’s possible it was my and my partner’s perception, but we felt very unwelcome and ended up getting everything to take away a few minutes after it was finally served so we could eat in the comfort and non-judgement space of our own home. Whether it was intentional or not, we left with our perception of this establishment as having fantastic food, but only go if you’re on a date or without younger children…or just have it delivered. It was pretty disappointing.
Have been eating here for years and regularly get takeaway. It’s become a bit of a tradition in our house thanks to the delicious punchy flavour and quick service. The chilli salt & pepper squid, and hot pot never disappoint!
Yummy Chinese food - we enjoyed every dish. Would love to try more! Will be back.Recommended dishesPork Ribs, Crispy Pork Belly
This place is highly rated and recommended especially for Sichuanese food so my expectations were high. There is nothing wrong that stands out, except for the high level of msg/salt level, but it lacks the bang you come to expect from sichuan food. My old favourite Mapo Tofu was mediocre at best, a lot more watery than what I was expecting. Traditional green beans were heavy in msg and or salt, overpowering other flavours. Service was ok, but it looks like they use untrained students, so they were a bit lost when it got busy. This was more like average Chinese take away than special Sichuan food.
The whole experience was delightful. The staff were friendly and approachable, and appeared to have great environment which helped the evening be very comfortable. The food was good enough that I would love to come back again for more. All in all, it was worth the money, and I do recommend the ice tea cocktail; it's delicious.
The only fried icecream in the western suburbs to be done right! Individually frozen balls of icecream, battered and fried. About the size of a softball. Could do with a layer of coconut, but that's about it. Delicious crispy duck - 1 star burnt flavour, never ordering this again! Classic Sichuan Ma La dry pot - 4 stars Kung Pao chicken - 4 stars Classic Sichuan fish hot pot - 3 stars very oily
Great menu, good wine list too. I had San Choy Bow and it was fresh and delicious. Located in cute suburban strip of shops. Tables outside on footpath in front of restaurant which is nice. Will definitely come back!
So we decided to give this local restaurant a go, only to be greatly disappointed. Very pricey, the price unfortunately doesn’t reflect the serving & quality of the food they served. We were given a very unsturdy table on the slope just outside of the front door, after 5 minutes of ordering, the waitress comes back out to ask us to order another dish as one of the dishes we ordered have sold out. After some hesitation, my partner has order the fried beef to replace the twice cooked pork belly. To our disgust, the beef was super dried, tasted somewhat like poorly made beef jerky, well deep fried food what do we expect? The prawns wre also overcooked!! The fragrant eggplants were ok on flavour, but mushy & overcooked, definitely not worth $24.95. What worst is that the sauce on the eggplants appears to be someone else’s left over Mapo Tofu as it has pieces of broken tofu though it. The fried rice, oh so little… such a small serving & hardly any chicken or anything in it except rice, onion & spring onion, we just couldn’t believe they charged $19 for that small plate of fried rice. Would we go back there again, we would have to think twice… to be honest, never felt so ripped off going out for dinner until we’ve been to this “Sichuan Bang Bang”.
