We visited here on a Wednesday night and were very happy with our choice. Firstly, the restaurant itself is very nice inside, very well kept. Background music was good but not overly loud. Service was attentive but not intrusive. Onto the food, we can honestly say that everything we ordered was very good. Well presented and tasty. The £1 oysters were an added bonus, this runs at certain times, so best checking what times to take advantage. Not overly complicated or busy menu, and specials were great too Overall, a great place for seafood. Highly recommend.
Came here for the happy hour oysters and they were the best I’ve had – creamy, meaty, and so fresh. Everything else was absolutely fantastic as well. The quality of the food and drink is phenomenal.
Lovely staff but nothing inspiring about the seafood dishes. Seen a lot of it before so if you're wanting classic then give it a go, the cookery is excellent. Just not very exciting sadly! My main course had quite a small fish portion too. Also didn't like being shoehorned into ordering champagne from the trolley... Nice table settings and loved the plush chairs.
Fabulous place Amazing food Delicious cocktails Professional team We went for a girls lunch. We were welcomed with the champagne trolley so a great start. It was so hard to choose every dish sounded great and we weren't disappointed. My cod was cooked to perfection. It was too hard to decide what we liked best. There were meat options and veggie options for those that don't care for fish. The team was knowledgeable and professional. After our lunch we went to the bar area for more cocktails, we were never rushed and had the best day. Can't wait to go back.... Maybe with less to drink for my poor wee head! #girlslunch #seafoodheaven
Ended up disappointed. On the whole the food was really good - highlights were the sweetbreads and the scallop yes, one - but our main course, the Dover sole, arrived and was undercooked to the point it couldn't be removed from the bone. Not ideal from a fish specialist. Told the waiter and they cooked it a little more but still not done properly when it came back, not OK for a 72 pound piece of fish. Service was patchy, intensely helpful when we arrived and then as the restaurant filled it was a different style altogether, table not cleaned, drinks arriving after finishing our course, then being unceremoniously told to vacate our table when they were the ones that hadn't delivered our meal on time. Crabshakk is a different class to our experience here, and half the price! note I don't like not giving restaurants a chance to respond to feedback but still heard nothing from them 2 weeks after explaining our disappointing experience.
Great service and food. From entering the the building to leaving the staff were amazing, so welcoming and chatty. Food and cocktails were all incredible, highly recommend!
Very disappointed with Shucks menu. We went on an ITISON deal which was for two courses and a glass of Cava each. I paid £55 for the deal, which was worth £103 47% discount. The menu we received was nothing like the amazing set menu advertised in the deal. Instead, it was a much simpler and cheaper menu that made it impossible to achieve the value of the deal. The only similarity to the original menu was the fish and chips which was on both menus. For starters, I was looking forward to the BBQ king prawns with pipian verde, pineapple and kimchi, instead I had to settle with fish soup. My partner was expecting Burrata with pear, Jerusalem artichoke and pickled fennel, but instead had to have a fish cake. For Mains, I was hoping for BBQ beetroot with pomegranate glaze, cracked wheat, preserved lemon and beetroot borani, but instead had to have BBQ Celeriac. My partner wanted Crispy skin stone bass with crushed potatoes, leeks, Arbroath smokie and chive cream, but had to settle for the, slightly over salted, fish chips. When I queried why the menu was so different, I was told quite bluntly, it is just a sample menu on ITISON page. However, it was actually advertised as a set menu. The small print on the deal does state the menu is subject to change. But I don’t understand why it was changed almost completely, when we could have had most of the dishes we wanted, which had been advertised with the deal, off the a la carte menu, but would have been charged more. Shucks has a very specific menu for those on the ITISON deal, which has no WOW factor. The food was nice, but what we had with the Cava came nowhere close to £103. We were also given an out-of-date drinks menu, because the price of the wine we ordered was cheaper than what we were charged.
Excellent food. Very good wine. But the service was too long.
Absolutely first glass, great food, drinks and fabulous staff. Great value for money food and top-notch cocktails. Will definitely return to what is sure to become Glasgow's premier seafood restaurant.
I booked a long time ago and the previous reviews scared me a little bit, so I didn't know what to expect when I walked in. But... what an experience! The host was extremely kind, service exquisite Aiden, pal, what a lovely sense of humour and attention!, and the food... THE FOOD. Every single bite I wished I could become Doctor Strange and restart the dish over. We had two sets of snacks as starters and sword fish and the Surf & Turf as mains. Absolutely outstanding. Portions are spot on after the snacks, even better if you have a side. House beer, mainly the lager, is everything you want in your glass and the house wine carte is very well thought. Two interesting sweet liquor orders were the closure for a perfect dinner. And, I must admit, the price for the entire experience was nothing but fair. Thank you, Shucks. Definitely going back.
