Shiraz Indian Restaurant
"The very first Shiraz Indian restaurant was opened in 1996 in Whangarei. The current owner, Jaswant Singh Minhas, is originally from the Punjab region of India, and a chef by trade. He started working at Shiraz when he arrived in New Zealand, juggling shifts alongside his business management studies. He bought that Shiraz Indian restaurant in 1998. At that time it was opposite Forum North, a site that was later turned into a carpark. From there, four new branches eventually opened, in Dargaville, Kamo and Whangarei. Jas has a passion for delivering authentic Indian food and a unique taste of Indian culture to his customers. Shiraz chefs craft delicious food in traditional tandoori ovens which give naans, meats and vegetarian tandoori dishes"

Good food but inconsistent service. I had a few meals at Shiraz Haveli Indian restaurant, mainly because the first visit’s experience was a positive one. I found on the second evening visit that the menu given to me the previous evening was only a lunch menu! Even upon requesting, the staff did not budge. That said, the place looked busy - with diners as well as takeaway clients. The food was delicious and the service reasonably quick.
New staff member serving so needs a little time to develop his style. Food very good. Sauce with the onion bhaji not very authentic but the bahji excellentFood: 4/5
Quality Indian dine in or takeaway. If you are looking for a place to take a fancy lady out to dinner and dress to impress, this is not it. It's casual. However, the food is great and service again, don't expect a butler here is good with helpful staff. Takeaway serving size: typical curry container+ rice container + naan feeds 2 people so good value for money feed 2 under $30. Vegetarian options: There are vegetarian options. Dietary restrictions: Halal certified.
I ask for 2 large potion I paid $44.20 of Chicken Tikka, but gave me medium size boxes and full of curry with little bit of pieces. Check the photos
I’ve had some rubbish Indian meals in my time son.. But that.. that was outstanding.. Highly recommend. Great service.
Entrees are so small they would barely feed a child. Still waiting for my main. Thinking about leaving. The 8 year old at the counter is doing a great job however, hence the 1 star. Recommend staying away.
The only Indian restaurant open on Boxing Day… all owners on the deck, good sign for a family run business. Happy with what we ordered and ate, given the constraints with short supply on chefs and wait staff. The paneer chilly was outstanding! The softest cottage cheese ever. The potato masala stuffing and the chutneys that came with the dosa were short on salt, no big deal… but please get staff to do a taste test. Lovely hardworking owners. We have been regulars at their Dargaville restaurant too whenever we pass by. The industry is facing challenging times… Keep smiling brother. This too shall pass.
Worst currys we have ever had. Our butter chicken was overly sweet and some of the chicken was over cooked and slightly burnt. Our chicken korma tasted nothing like a korma curry should and it was also spicy hot, we asked for mild and the chicken was also over cooked and slightly burnt. Our entree tandoori prawns with salad wasn't very nice either, the prawns we're over cooked and slightly burnt, the tandoori flavor didn't taste like tandoori and the salad was a tiny bit of shredded carrot and cabbage. Our first and last time we will ever order take aways from here, I want my money back, not worth it!
Stopped here on the way back from Whangarie. It was a public holiday so they charged up a surcharge which is fine, but the food was on the verge of being non-edible. I am a type of guy who will like anything in a restaurant, but their curry's were stale especially the daal and the other curry's had too much spices in them even though I ordered medium. Almost got sick after the food. But hey, didnt die.
Bland and undercooked food. The onions were cut so big and the meal was absolutely awful. We first dined in and tried their South Indian menu it was horrible then since we didn't even eat any of it we thought we will just take away something as all other restaurants were about to close. The takeaway was not good either. I do not recommend this restaurant.
