What a wonderful pub this place is. Entering through the entrance to the old part of the pub full of character and history to the chic restaurant down below. The food was simply amazing, our four hungry diners were not disappointed and the staff are friendly and attentive. A big shout out to Nick for his friendly greeting and recommendations in the restaurant, he is an asset to this business.
lovely folks in the old pub much better environment in my opinion. we got the calamari and the seafood chowder. i liked both, but i could have gone for a chowder that didn’t have prawns that needed to have their tails removed in my soup. the overall vibe was excellent in the old pub with lots of touches and old regulars just sort of milling about. the newly built parts are nice, but they sort of take away from the historic aspect of it. our bartender wad lovely, she was helpful and friendly.
Enjoyable atmosphere, food pretty good, service very friendly. The renovation is very smart, much better than I expected. I like the fact the original pub section hasn’t been altered much so there’s something for everyone.
Took our lovely team to dinner at the amazing new Shippies and didn’t it deliver!! Wow Wee began in the public bar, which has cleverly remained the same as it is an institution in Battery Point and Hobart. After quite a few pints, we adjourned into our own private dining room in the stunning new facility. The renovations are amazing in that they have created a modern, light architecturally designed space yet maintained the old world charm. Staff were very attentive, and we wanted for nothing in our private space. The menu is excellent with all of my staff enjoying their meals. A excellent wine list with great variety is also on offer. All in all we had an awesome evening and would thoroughly recommend the new Shippies dining experience Do yourself a favour!
My friend and I stayed a night here before leaving Hobart. It was ok. Shared bathroom/toilet was decent and clean. You can fix a simple meal in the kitchen. Good location. Ample parking spots.
Found this great pub whilst walking around Hobart and was not disappointed. Wonderful old pub with a modern restaurant out back. We enjoyed a great pork belly fish and a super yum seafood chowder. Will try something else when we are next in Hobart. And… great service from some great young people, thank youService: 5/5
We were visiting Hobart and went to the Hotel for dinner on our first night. The food was excellent and the fish pie was so fresh with quality scallops and fish - the best I have ever had. We went back again and were just as impressed. All the young staff are great too - the service was second to none. Impressive wine list too.Hotel highlightsGreat value
This place is an absolute gem! We stayed here and had dinner in the restaurant. The rooms are perfect for what you would expect from an older establishment and the restaurant was exceptional! The food was amazing! Highly recommend visiting here!
Had a birthday celebration lunch for my wife attended by approx 30 guests. Special menue were prepared by the Pub. The new renovations are fantastic, great atmosphere, great food, great staff. Cannot recommend the place highly enough. Just a great celebration of a major birthday in no small part due to Shippies.
New renovations very nice. Was able to park. Went for dinner. Menu expensive for a pub. Nothing on special. Ordered their Seafood chowder $23 as it had a great reputation prior to renovations. I asked does it come with any bread. No. Therefore ordered a small loaf $10. Served with 2 small butters. The soup arrived. Not hot but edible. A watery thin liquid made with milk. No cream detected? 2 prawns tails on. 1 scallop few flakes of fish. 1 cube potato carrot bits. Absolutely no seasoning at all? 4 of us ordered soup and all dived for double dosings of salt and pepper. 15 minutes later arrived the loaf. So hot it couldnt be touched. I had to tear it apart with a knife and fork. It defeated the purpose of bread with soup! The 4 guests all said the same about the soup. Just awful. Bread so overpriced. The raw fish dish was absolutely beautiful. The lamb roast hardly any vegetables? Yet the meat portion was very good. None of us out of 9 guests want to go there again. I told the waitress pleasantly about the soup. But no response. Two of are good cooks. We both said the chefs need a lesson! The woodwork is warm and looks very nice. New renovations look fabulous.
