Where do I start? simply amazing and divine dining in experience from start to finish. Every dish is worth taking photo ls for and they also went out of their way to cater for me with special non sashimi dishes. Really appreciate it. It will take me sometime to put all the names to the photos I posted but I will get there. Great place to take your love one for this awesome amazing Omakase courses. Love love love..
Outstanding service and very nice food but slightly overpriced. This restaurant is definitely one of the most authentic Japanese restaurants in Sydney, indeed. However, their conceptseems like a semi fine dining isn't really appealing. Their room itself is private but I can clearly hear what other guests are talking in the room. Please watch the video I attached. I am not talking but next room's voice is way too clear. Portion is small but the taste is outstanding. I will go back time to time.
Great authentic Japanese food with good service. Tucked away upstairs, you will need to look for the restaurant entrance. The service is good however not all staff can understand English and seek another staff member to assist. The sushi is fabulous and the waggu beef is of high quality however I am not a fan of cooking my own on the oil burner hot plate that is brought to the table. A little expensive however it is in the rocks region.
Japanese fine dining with all the right flavours. The tuna sashimi, cooked fish, wagyu cooked on pink Himalayan salt rock, shabu shabu with wagyu, and dessert mochi this menu is dressed to impress and hits all the best flavours. Highly recommended for authentic Japanese in the heart of Sydney
The special banquet menu was a great choice to taste different styles of food. I especially loved the Cod and the Wagyu hotpot - beautiful flavours in all the dishes Make sure to sign up for VIP guest list as you get instant discounts !! Email them for special occasions and you’ll get a treat. Worth it!!
Thought it was a strange entrance from the street but once you're inside, you're immersed to a different place. We were kindly situated at the corner right by the large glass walls. Food was beautiful, carefully seasoned and never over-powering. Highlight was the Unagi nigiri - simply melted in your mouth! The salt rock wagyu is also recommended. They surprised me with a birthday treat which was so nice!!! Staff are kind, especially the Japanese man at the counter. Wished me a happy birthday before leaving some places forget. Would love to be back for another special occasion. Only downfall was that we had spent almost $200 and still could eat quite a bit but the quality was superb. Thank you!
Shiki has intimately romantic ambience and dimly lit seating arrangements. It offers views overseeing the rocks and specialised tatami rooms for a more authentic hotpot and grill experience. It is consistently good every time I dine here and not as exorbitantly priced as other higher end Japanese restaurants. The service is polite, attentive and prompt. The pink rock wagyu and hotpot experience is a must try! The sashimi, salmon and sushi are delicious, however there are limited food options for lunch. I recommend checking Shiki out for dinner due to the greater variety in menu choices and cosy atmosphere for the evening. Instagram: @sydneyfoodreviewer
To say that we were disappointed is an understatement. We invited our closest families for a birthday dinner last Sat, and the experience went downhill on arrival. The room was filled with thick smoke due to the faulty ventilation from room next to us having BBQ. Felt exactly like we were in a kitchen when someone burns food without turning on the rangehood. Food - We waited for 30+ mins before the 1st round of food came, simple sashimi dish. The food was ok but definitely not up to the standard for the price. The raw wagyu beef salad was chewy. The wagyu coupled together with the Himalayan salt rock was too salty and destroyed the flavor of the beef. Might as well have had salt cured beef. The other extreme was that sukiyaki pot was way too sweet. Service - The service was so slow on the night that we literally had to walk out a few times to get the waiters to refill water etc. It's like we were forgotten in the room. No one was wearing masks while serving and they put their fingers inside the bowls when handing them out to you. Environment - As mentioned above, the ventilation in the room was bad and upon closer look due to us having time to do so, after waiting so long there were brownish spilled stains on the sliding door and we could feel the small bits of dirt with our feet on the carpet floor under the table as we weren't allowed to wear shoes inside. We tried to concentrate on our conversations after noticing! Although we weren't having a degustation, the whole dinner took almost 3 hours to finish. To make it worse, we were charged $50 for the private room which was not mentioned at the time of booking! Lucky we checked the bill, otherwise we wouldn't have got this refunded. Having spent OVER $1,100 for 7 adults & 2 kid, we expected top notch dinner that everyone would enjoy. Instead, the birthday host us left feeling embarrassed and had to apologise to our loved ones that night. To be honest, we feel that Shiki should compensate for ruining our celebration and I'm writing this long review because I don't want others to suffer the same!
This is my favourite restaurant in Sydney. Everytime I come to Sydney I try my best to go. I love their Wagyu on himalayan rock salt. A must have every time. Their fish in paper pot was amazing. The fish was very sweet. Restaurant is a must try!
Good quality food but you can get the same quality in Sydney for far less money. Beef cooked on Himalayan salt was too salty so I wouldn’t recommend it. One of the waitresses needs more training. We ordered sukiyaki and she put the beef slices into the pan without any sauce so they stuck to the pan. Secure parking 3 mins walking distance away
