Story

We offer authentic, traditional Japanese cuisine and can guarantee our seafood is amongst the freshest in Perth. Our whole fish is purchased straight from the market and professionally filleted by Shige himself, true Japanese artisan style.

Shige is our chef/owner of Shige Restaurant. Formally trained as a Kaiseki cuisine chef in Osaka, Shige made his way to Fremantle in 1982 and worked as head chef at 'KOTO', Japanese Restaurant in Fremantle. In 1986, Shige opened as Shige Restaurant on 822 Hay Street, Perth and then relocated to 19-21 Mends Street, South Perth in 1996, where he was commercially identified as 'Shige Sushi Bar' until 2011. Shige Restaurant has now established a regular customer base in Perth as well as from abroad and has become the longest running Japanese restaurant in Perth.
