The cafe is crammed, not the nicest for a chat with mates. The line to the counter has no obvious flow and is amongst central tables and stools which take up the most space but are the least inviting... Bought a $5 scone which they said they toast but clearly don't know what they're doing. In case they're paying attention, you cut the scone and toast the halves... The scone itself was horrible. The spices would have been good if it weren't for the fact that the dough was either completely powdery and crumbling to pieces, or clearly uncooked... Terrible waste of my money and time. I hope they change some of these aspects soon or they won't survive the UoA campus rent much longer, like those companies prior to them. Vegetarian options: Don't get the scone.
It was average. The Chai latte was very sweet. They missed one Flat white for us. I do like the atmosphere - bit artsy and casual. The price is however high for students.
I have had 2 occasions where I have been in and told that the muffins are fresh that day only to find when I was back in my office that they are cold, therefore been in the fridge. This is after asking the staff repeatedly "are they fresh" They either do not know of telling lies to see them. Parking: Parking is challenging but it's not the fault of the cafe.
I usually go to Strata when I'm on campus but every now and then I'll switch it up... The vibe of this place is not bad, but the food and coffee were ok but a bit pricey for students... There were some tiny bugs flying around near the counter when I went which was weird. See photo for the abstract latte art. Bit of a noisy study spot but good for meeting people.
I am disappointed every time I go there. Coffee is too expensive, have to pay extra for double shot and it's often burnt.
Had a really nice passionfruit and carrot muffin : Staff are super kind and speedy too!
the food and service does not worth the price. I was the second to order the lunch, but the last to get my food. I understand it's busy time, but chef has got to prioritize order, it is unreasonable that I ordered early, but got the food late, and people not just 1 person, almost everyone ordered after me, got their food before me.
Not a whole lot of food options but a nice and quaint place to eat and chill.
A pleasantly located cafe in a sunken courtyard by Symonds St. Clean, with good lighting and only slightly crowded tables. The staff are polite and pleasant and take care to get orders right. The food is OK: fresh with and generous servings of a generic cafe menu. But why, for example, throw some kind of BBQ ?? sauce on top of the bechemel on top of eggs benedict? And yet another cafe in Auckland that carefully makes its coffees but leaves tea drinkers with a tea bag. All up, if you're hungry and on a campus with pretty blah lunch places, this is probably a better choice than most of the others. But not worth making a trip
Yeah nah. The guy behind the till was pleasant but it was a totally underwhelming experience: soy hot chocolate tasted like regular milk, the chai latte was regular size when I'd ordered large and was barely tepid, and, although they knew we were taking a table to stay in, the drinks were in single-use cups. Won't be back. Won't recommend.
