Not worth the hype. Went for lunch with the kids. Hardly anyone there so you'd think they could do a simple calamari and chips properly. It was hardly warm and the chips looked like they were the dregs from the fryer. For $22 you would expect better. Won't be back. Came with 4 bits of calamari but kids grabbed them before the picture.
Great food, friendly service and nice ambience. We were stopping by Newcastle on our way home to Sydney from Port Stephens. Had no idea what to expect and just stumbled upon Scotties, and we made a very good choice. Very very happy with our experience. Highly recommend
Scotties is a Must-visit for Newcastle locals and tourists alike. The menu features an eclectic mix of inspired seafood dishes from their kingfish sashimi to their Morton bay pluto pups! All incredibly different and all delicious. Nestled in a beautifully converted terrace, the restaurant is about a 3 minute walk from the beach with a cosy outdoor seating area well away from the chaos of the main CBD. The staff are friendly, attentive and happy to have a little chat if the opportunity presents. We had a wonderful lunch here sampling their Lobster Club sandwich, Tuna Ceviche and a fish kebab. The ceviche was an absolute hit with its bold yet balanced textures and flavours. Our lunch came in at about $120 including drinks so I wouldn’t call this an everyday experience for the average lunch. In our opinion it was well worth the price. We’ll be back soon to try the rest of the menu!
Had a wonderful evening enjoying the delights on offer from this restaurant. We had an array of dishes that had an amazing balance of flavours. My fish pie was beyond delicious. The wine is also superb. Thank you for a lovely evening.
I am seriously impressed with the food I had here tonight. The lobster bun, the kingfish, the Prawn pancakes and the broth with the blue skimmer crab dumpling. Such a level of exceptional cuisine with a cute outside sitting area with fairy light. And also great service. I been to many places around Australia and tonight I am impressed. Thank you
Our family had dinner at Scotties last night. It was a great food experience. We all shared a variety of dishes and loved them all. Top night the team were very busy but managed to look after us really well. Thank you.
My Favourite Seafood restaurant/takeaway in Newcastle. I cannot resist their Calamari, though I love everything on the menu. A beautifully quaint outdoor area where I love to sit and eat while enjoying a glass of wine
Don't believe the hype. Extremely overpriced and below average food. I'd be shocked if all the 5 star reviews below are from real people. You pay 3 times the price of any other fish and chip place in Newcastle. Seems like they are just flogging the "icon" factor and preying on tourists. Reply: That's commendable, although I doubt that it warrants a x3 markup. Regardless, I ordered a >$30 meal which came with a 100g piece of Barra and about 12 chips. Are these potatoes sustainably sourced and much more expensive too?
For 2 adults and one child for just chips 2 scallops and one burger $58!!! Lady was lovely at the counter but there was food missing, then rectified but was very average, we drove 2 minutes to the wharf to sit down and have a lovely picnic but food was already cold, I don’t normally write reviews but pretty disappointed and won’t recommend or return
Not your standard fish n chips shop. Ignore the complaints about prices, for the quality of service, drink and food to say nothing of the ambience!, Scottie’s is exceptional value. Having said all that, this is some of the best damn fish and chips I’ve ever eaten: perfectly battered, impeccable hoki and tartar sauce you’ll think about for days. Will be back for more!!!
