I do not recommend Scape Tribune or any of the Scape affiliated buildings. The receptionists here were very kind and I met friends through my roommates, but the company itself used every chance it got to charge money from me. The fire alarm went off about every month, oftentimes more. The elevators broke down often and when you live on the thirteenth floor and receive zero communication about it, it isn't very appealing. In my first year, the power and water went out and I had to spend the night with someone I didn't know very well in a shared room where one bedroom didn't lock. There are computers in the lobby and neither of them are connected to the internet nor can you open any documents on them, so there is no way to use them for schoolwork. When I first entered Scape, I was promised 4 weeks free of rent at the end of my contract. I never received that. It was also agreed that if you got locked out three times in a row, the fourth time you would need to pay a fee. I got locked out in November and confirmed with the receptionist that it was my last free assist. I received the bill for it in January. No communication that the rules had ever been changed. Student accommodation is great for first years, but I would recommend anywhere but Scape. The people I met in the building were the only positive experience I gained through living there and as a young international student, I feel I was very taken advantage of by this company.
Very overpriced and toxic environment. Tenants are subjected to constant inspections and demands with little or no notice. Fire alarms are overly sensitive and go off on a regular basis requiring evacuation of the whole building. Fire drills are often stagged at extremely inconvenient times ex.7.00 sunday morning and can be frequent. Staff is unorganized and will remove your property from the common area at times without documentation or notice. There is no accountability system in place to prevent this. The building over all is dirty and in poor functioning condition. Elevators constantly become stuck and at least half of them have expired inspections. This location is far from worth it's price and I would advise you to steer clear.
If you love being over-charged and poor communication then you’ll love it here!nnMy contract was ending and they charged me $230 for room cleaning, $20 for common area cleaning then sent me another SEPARATE email where they added $75 mattress cleaning on top of the previous charges! The exit inspection report for the room marked EVERYTHING as ‘not clean’, when I know for a fact that I cleaned every surface and had marked all the stains and broken furniture as already existing when I moved in.nI emailed the staff to inquire about why I was being charged so much when the exit inspection photos even showed that the room was clean; only to be told that there was ‘dust’ on one surface and that there were stains on the bathroom floor which I know there weren’t, because I saw that floor only a few hours before the email!. Ridiculous. If you are going to charge to clean the room regardless of how clean it was actually left, then TELL people that when they move in so they know!nnEarlier in the year I was back home for holidays when another roommate moved out and we all got emails to clean the common area. A few days later, I was sent an email charging me to hire a cleaner! I tried to dispute with them but was told that the common area was EVERYONES responsibility even if I wasn’t physically present for over a month!nnNot even to mention that the air conditioning is a joke. It decides by itself to turn off and not work for days on end, and putting in a maintenance request does nothing. You just have to try to turn it on every day and hope it works.nnThen, the laundry charges are absolutely ridiculous. $9 to fully wash and dry one cycle. And occasionally, the dryers don’t even dry the clothes properly. On more than one occasion I had pulled wet clothes from a dryer - and guess what? Want to dry them again? Pay up!nnThe ceiling leaks sometimes too! I once had a heavy stream of water leak from the ceiling and fire alarm onto my bed as I slept. Thankfully the front desk quickly helped that, but I still had to pay myself to wash and dry my sheets.nnThis isn’t even my first time staying at this company. Previously stayed at Merivale and had the same crappy experience, only moved to this one hoping for improvement only to be even more disappointed and miserable than I thought.nnNEVER live here, unless you enjoy suffering.
I don’t recommend to stay in this place, it’s too expensive and they charge for everything. They are charging me $270 for no reason, they said it’s for cleaning the room but that’s nonsense because I cleaned all my room and bathroom the last day and left it on perfect condition. That is an injustice and they are stealing from me.
Love this place mannnnnnnThe receptionists are so cool, friendly and trained in mental health aid so they’re willing to quickly listen to my problemsnnThe building is old, but maybe that’s what makes it the best and most fun/friendly scape. Study rooms are great for exam block too!nnreception gave me a band-aid when i needed one so they’re a real g in my eyes
