Scammells Auctions is a wonderful place to either buy or sell items that you may not be able to find elsewhere. They accept your description of items without protest. They have a motto of "Its only Money", they are quick to sell items and their 16.5% rate is a standard. I have bought a lot of stuff from them over the years. Friendly staff willing to get your purchases. Our go to for bargain shopping.
Great service - cheers Timothy & George for doing the heavy lifting, legends!
Trying to get a paddle number for a friend wanting to bid online. She has registered but cannot see a number assigned to her. When does this happen, does anybody know? Does she just go online on the auction morning and hope there is a number attached when she bids online? The website is confusing, does not show her bidding number so she cannot be prepared to bid!
I edited this review since I appreciate the quick response from the manager and the kind support from Adrian. Thanks for helping the seller and buyer likes me to find our needs yet we also help you to maintain the business. I do hope that you will have a standard procedure to solve the dispute since the same problem but two solutions from the staff. I told the lady that I would like to give my positive feedback that please let the bidder know in the description if the item comes incomplete. That will help us saving time to drop by and improve confident to make the online bidding. She is sitting at the front desk and be your face to the customer. Why don't we have a friendly talk? I doubt that you have ever listened to her response to a customer complaint. I also believe that you will not be happy to spend money and take home stuff with wrong description. Unfortunately, I had this problem twice in very short time and was concluded by the selller that it's my fault to spend the wrong money. Let me repeat your words, I still welcome a positive conversation. Cheers, Nam
Absolutely THE best auction house in Adelaide, if not Australia. Staff are fantastic, appraisers are extremely fair with their assessment of pieces. From reading some of the reviews, it would appear those not happy, haven't read the Buyer's/Seller's Term's & Conditions - quite clear & available on their website. At the end of the day, people are buying secondhand, not retail, therefore no warranty, no guarantee. The app is also great !
Customer service is a completely foreign concept to the woman who answers the phone and seems to enjoy antagonising the very people who bid professionally, and weekly, and who’s auction fees fund her job. Rude, condescending, difficult and surly. Unfortunately she undoes all the hard work the rest of the customer-facing professionals in the business do. It only takes one to pull the team down and this lady is most certainly the one. How she still has her position is beyond me.
Liars! They'll tell you one thing one week and a different thing the next. Wanted to sell some original and signed paintings, they declined because they say they're not accepting paintings they don't think will sell for more than $100 anymore. Why then are they listing prints for estimated value of $50?? Had a few other like responses for other items. Small & Whitfield sold them all for above their estimates. Scammells loss, steer clear. MORE LIES!! I note the owner's reply! This happened pre Covid, we have statement for other items sold on the day we were told this. We noticed they were listing art with estimates below $100 just the day our post was listed. The owner has actually criminally defamed us. It is illegal not to QR or sign in and the owner has accused us of such. JUST AVOID THIS AUCTIONER.
I was very frustrated when I took a number of items into Scammell’s for their next auction. After 2 email appraisals that did not respond to a number of photos sent, and then a third email that was not responded to at all, I phoned and was told to just bring the items in and they would go into the next auction. I did that this morning only to have a distracted staff member demand to know who approved me bringing the items in, where was the appraisal, and declaring “we won’t accept that” to a few items. It was very clear he wasn’t interested in even looking at the items which included 2 Eames style chairs, vintage copper pots, bronze coal scuttle, collector grease barrel and gun, 60s/70s vinyl records, wash basin stand, vintage tools, etc all in good condition – that is the things Scammell’s sells at auction every week. Indeed, he said they wouldn't accept some rugs I had in fact bought from them. I left and will just use another auction house. Frankly, this level of poor service is why people sell via Market Place and Gumtree, and Scammell’s would be smart to address these issues.
i bought an item sturdy but then late on the next day i got message that it was broken beyond repair somehow the night of auction. no explanation except that i would not have to pay for it. Response is confusing for me, i had winning bid on large hat/coat rack, not a wine table r
The people at Scammells have always responded to me promptly via email, whether it's about items being appraised or placing a bid on an item. I made my first purchase with Scammells today, placing my bids online and live. Great system, and so fantastic seeing old furniture being recycled. Thank you!
