Sangam Indian Cuisine
"Sangam Indian Cuisine - Whitianga’s only authentic Indian restaurant has been serving people in the town since 2004 and continues to lead its way as a popular local Indian joint in town. The restaurant seats 82 diners inside, while another 12 seats in the outdoors are highly popular in summers. We guarantee fresh high-quality meats bought from the local butcher. We do not use colouring agents in our food, so there is no orange looking curries or meat. Our preparations are authentic and prepared in Indian style. You can either choose to dine with us or take away a meal. Most of our curries are unique to us, whilst the restaurant also does some modern Indian food, such as the Lamb Shank Curry or the Whole Fish; must give it a try."

DELICIOUS FOOD! Sangam literally saved my life, I was dying of starvation after work and then boom Sangam was open so I nabbed a butter chicken and it’s literally the best curry ever! So good xx
Really would NOT recommend! Very clueless on customer service, waiters were leaning on counter and chatting whilst there was drinks to be topped. We waited over 1 hour and 45 minutes for a meal that I could of made better myself. The mains were well over priced for the amount there was. For example, we only received 3 small pieces of chicken about the size of a $2 coin in our main that cost $32. It’s a Joke! Totally understand it’s a busy time of year but if you are a local here, surely you know this and could better prepare your business?
Joke of a place, waited 1.5 hours for our meals without having any update on how far our food was. We didn't even get told one of our meals wasn't available until roughly 20mins into waiting. Absolutely shocking. No single care for what people had planned after to do as we also had dessert planned somewhere else which we couldn't do due to the owners incompetence. Being the owner, duty manager, trainer and cook is not a smart way to run a business. Learn to deligate a few roles and you may cut the wait time down.
This is a great Indian restaurant in Whitianga. I went with a large group of people this was not an issue with the staff and the service was fantastic. Within the group we had a wide range of different meals and entrees all of them were well-presented came out together and were very well received. These meals were excellent value and good quality. This the restaurant I could recommend to return to.
DO NOT GO! We booked a table for 7.30pm for the 6 of us. They knew we were coming in yet our food took 1 hour & 45 mins to come out when they originally said 45 mins to 1 hour. We didn’t have one apology when the food was finally brought out. They put the takeaway restaurant before the actual restaurant. A ‘medium’ curry was close to a vindaloo. We ordered 2 lots of poppodoms to start with, first one came out after about 10 minutes, the 2nd 10 minutes after that. We had to go up and ask for more drinks, they didn’t once come and ask us, bear in mind they had multiple staff on who were just stood behind the bar talking. We had to go up & ask where our onion bahjis were after 45 minutes that came out as just deep fried onion. Food wasn’t great at all to be honest, very disappointing.
Absolutely shocked with the rudeness of the owner, he blamed the 14 year olds he hired for everything right in front of them, man can not run a business. Food took 1 hour 35 minutes with no update of how long the wait time was and then we were hurried out of restaurant because 10pm was approaching when we had only just received our meal. What a Joke, please do not come here.
The food was absolutely delicious! We ate here twice during our 3 day stay in whitianga and it was absolutely fantastic! We tried 4 dishes and each one of them was extraordinary. Highly recomended!
Absolutely appaled by the leadership I saw by the "so called duty manager" this night. Don't know which 1 it was cos 1 was acting like the manager yet was popping corona's and drinking behind the bar. The "manager" that did come out and talk to us was actually rude and didn't apologized once for the 1.5 hour long wait. Yeah 40 minutes is acceptable but when a whole restaurant has the same issue of having to wait 1.5-2 hours then buddy maybe you should buck up the ego and apologize for the service. Drop the God complex, take some criticism and delegate some issues and you may fix a few things. Hell if you got the "manager" drinking corona's behind the bar to help out instead of getting drunk then maybe things would run alot more smoothly
We were recommended to eat her by a local guy and so pleased he did -the food was absolutely delicious and the staff were very welcoming and helpful with our choices. Pleased we went with his recommendation and not by the reviews-would highly recommend
It's a shame that the great work in the kitchen is being completely tarnished by the service. Immediately, we'll praise the food here as being uniquely flavourful and super authentic, maybe the most we've found in NZ. They know what they're doing, undoubtedly. We excitedly made our way here right after we arrived on holiday since it was similar last time - fantastic food, relatively poor service. This time, the service completely botched the experience. The staff either couldn't be bothered, were inexperienced or don't like their jobs - all the above, at least, it seemed from their demeanor. One of them dropped a dish with tomato sauce or something alike and a lot of it fell on my new light-coloured shorts. All three servers saw this, especially the one who dropped it and multiple times so - it was very evident the amount of sauce that fell. Even some customers saw it, too. Literally none of them apologized or cared to address anything. It could've never happened, they way they didn't respond. The closest was one of them offering me a dirty/used surface-cleaning rag which I declined because of obvious reasons. No tissues, no mention, absolutely nothing. I wasn't about to ask for an apology because what's the point then. No basic human decency? I understand it's not the establishment's job to teach that but from a professional standpoint, that's shameful. It's the principle of the thing. I can buy new clothes but why would I ever want to put up with such frustratingly inconsiderate nonsense. The wait time was also unreasonably long. They were quite busy around when our entrees were being served, so that's understandable. But to take about 45 minutes for two mains to arrive is a joke when the larger tables left. And once again, a complete lack of care from a service standpoint. They couldn't even give half a toss to fake a "hey, we're sorry/thanks for your patience". The most basic of customer service skills. Nope. Too much to expect. Only positive, the lady did bring us the extra naans we'd asked if would take long, in less than a minute. Very pleasantly surprised. That was solid. Entrees didn't take too long, either, no worries there.
