Horrible. Hugely disappointed. We had been to Samuels about 3 years ago for a birthday dinner and it had been wonderful - great tasting food, good fine-dining portions, wonderful service. After my experience this time I will not be returning ever again. The prices were the same as previous about $20 entrees and desserts, and approx $40 mains. My entree was disgusting - I only had a 2 mouthfuls and left the rest because I couldn't stomach it. My main was 3 pieces of meat only slightly larger than a 50 cent piece with some sauce - unfortunately the flavour wasn't even good. Dessert was on one quarter of the plate and had coco pops on it - dare I say more. The only thing I liked about the evening were the cocktails, and even they did not always come in the appropriate glass - when asked they said that it was because they had run out of glasses I was the only one in the half-filled restaurant having cocktails.... Also when we were seated, we were shoved in a corner despite that the restaurant was barely half full for the entire 2.5 hours we were there, so much so that we had to move the table out so that we could get into our seats and I am a trim person!. Once I sat down there was a strange spotlight pointing down over my shoulder that made me feel like I was on a stage and that there was someone peering over my shoulder for the entire evening. After being seated squashed in a corner and the awful entrees we considered just walking out - I wish we had! Never again. - Melinda
The French waitress/manager was very pleasant. The service was good. The food however was only average and the portions were so small! The price was exorbitant. Entree $25.90 for 4 scallops. Really??? The main meals ranged from $42 to $49. Far too expensive for Thirroul of all places! Hard pressed to find a meal this expensive in Sydney. And, being Friday night, we had to choose two courses. How's that for maximising profits!! Gone are the days when restaurants serve minuscule minimalist 'art on a plate' meals. Someone needs to tell Samuels that. Suffice to say, I won't be returning. Value for money score out if 10 - ZERO!
We had a works dinner there last Thursday night choosing the 3 course option. The food was absolutely impeccable. Great mixture of flavours and tastes that just worked beautifully together. I can't recommend the food enough. Everyone in our party was raving about it. Thank you so much, we had just the loveliest evening.
Samuel's is a great place for local modern Australian food. The concept of having a few side dishes with a protein of choice is a great way to be able to share food around without it being too filling. They also contain a good wine list and very aptly complement meals.
First time I've been here and found it good but not great. The menu is fairly sophisticated and varied especially for this area. The servings are quite small and the prices fairly high but the food was mostly delicious. Some of the meals lacked balance with the ceviche having way too much dill but the steak tartare and pork belly was lovely. It is BYO but there is a very extensive wine list. If I was a local I'd come back but it is not worth travelling for
I've eaten here twice and I honestly can't remember anything about what I chose or how it was. That's not a particularly a good sign. Perhaps it was because the person I was with who had declared it her 'favourite restaurant', then proceeded to complain non-stop about everything. I was soon to discover this was a running theme and we're no longer friends, to save myself pain. Sorry Samuel's, I would give you another try just to be fair, but I looked at the menu the other day and it seems to have become insanely expensive. You want how much for a main now? I'll leave it.
I've been going to Samuels for years. The current team at Samuels are excellent in all respects. The food is delicious and service is warm and attentive. One of my favourite restaurants ever.
Grate place on the beach a good place to sit and checkout the waves have a nice lite lounch or in the evening for a nice dinner on the beach. nice place to take someone you mite won't to be alone with , nice and cosy and comfortable atmosphere. **** in my book .
Very average food but extremely overpriced. Service was okay. Had the steak and vegetarian mains, steak was overcooked and tofu was very ordinary. Not worth the price tag.
Exciting menu, great wine list with both Australian and international producers - all topped off with lovely service. Thanks for a fab night!
