This used to be one of the highlights of Queenstown. It was a place where the financially challenged students and the like could find a bargain on used ski and outdoors clothing to keep them warm on the slopes and inside their mouldering Otago flats. Alas, this reputation must have gotten to their heads as these days you’ll find second hand gear being sold at prices close to retail. I live in hope that this cosmic balanced will be restored and this sacred place will be reborn… for now I’ll just have to take my business to the much more reasonably priced and very closely located SPCA and hospice op shops nearby.
Went to drop off a couch today, and a lady ran out back saying they can't take it as it had a small rip on the back - therefore they couldn't sell it. It is a well built couch that was in good shape other than the rip. You are meant to be a charity salvos! I fully believe that if you lowered your prices you could sell everything people are donating.
Very overpriced. Most expensive salvos in NZ in my opinion. There are tops that are priced at the same price you buy them brand new. I have always been a supporter of buying second hand over new but I cannot justify the prices here, it boggles my mind!
I don’t like to leave bad reviews, but feel compelled to after visiting this shop multiple times. I’m a local and love op shopping around town, but the prices here are consistently ridiculous. I was actually shocked when I popped in the other day. For example, an old, ugly leather jacket was priced at $180. Most of the jumpers were at least $40 and many were a lot more. Shouldn’t op shops entice people to buy secondhand, rather than buy new, cheaper stuff at Kmart and the Warehouse? Such a shame.
So expensive!!!! An old woolen jumper with a hole in was selling for $75 and a RL shirt for $80! I understand the demographic is different here but lower income.people in QT are struggling! People are living pay check to paycheck. A lot of people.seem to think all QT folk are wealthy which is simply not the truth. This place says no to any negotiation on prices for essential items. How do people afford clothing? I always generously donate to charities such as this one but not anymore.
Went in to find some cheaper warm clothes as I can’t afford to buy brand new but I was shocked to see that the prices there for second hand clothes are almost the exact same price as if it was new?? I also saw some warehouse / Kmart brands being sold for $30+ which is strange considering brand new those brands are around $15.. nothing in the store is affordable for people who are struggling which defeats the purpose of the store, doesn’t it? Walked out with nothing as not one single item was within my budget unfortunately
The lady on the counter was lovely. I had been told this was a real good op shop. It wasn’t bad but not as great as I had been lead to believe.
If I could give 0 stars I would. My flat mates had been clearing out our shed while I was away and my skis accidently ended up at the salvos. My flat mates went back the next day to rectify their mistake and were forced to pay $80 dollars to get them back. I understand it is a charity organisation but screwing over hard working locals who are struggling to make ends meet anyway isn't very charitable. Greedy management and very little compassion.
Extremely over priced. Better off buying things new from Kmart or looking on $1 reserve on trade me. I saw a ripped stained band tshirt for $50. Absolute rip off. Not to mention it smells so musty
I went to this store last week looking for some warm clothing for my husband and I ,as my husband and I are doing contract work here on a limited wage ,I was absolutely shocked appalled and disgusted ,when I saw the warm items I was looking at for my husband and two children were between $80 and $300,the Salvation Army can not justify these prices when the sole purpose of the shop is to help struggling families as it has been for years .I would seriously like some answer's as to why the pricing is extremely high.I ended up having to buy new warm clothing from Kmart for a third of the price the Salvation Army was charging .It does not give many seasonal workers incentive to come to Queens Town to work ,when they are taken advantage of because of the rich that live here .
