We’ve had so many great experiences at Salt Water Café over the years – it’s been a favourite local spot for us, and we’ve always loved the vibe, friendly staff, and consistently good meals. That’s why it’s so disappointing to say we’ve had two underwhelming visits in a row.nnToday, we ordered the ribs – or rather, a handful of chips and capsicum with barely a hint of rib meat. The portion was noticeably smaller than previous visits last time the ribs were hot, juicy, and triple the size!. This time, the box was wet, the chips were cold, and the potato salad was hot. Unfortunately, this followed a previous visit where the chips and gravy were also cold.nnWe’d happily pay more if it meant getting the full-size, quality meal we used to enjoy. It’d also be great to have the option to choose which salad comes with the meal. As it stands, we spent over $20 and still left hungry – not ideal, especially when expectations are based on past excellent meals.nnStill hoping this is just a rough patch – we really want to keep supporting Salt Water and see it bounce back to the standard we know it can reach.
A Gourmet Experience in Disguise: The Fried CatastrophennPresented with the flair of a dropped tray and plated by what I can only assume was a blindfolded possum, this dish boldly challenged everything I thought I knew about seafood.nnThe long breadcrumb-crusted mystery, resembling a burnt broomstick, was an attempt at butterfish, though it had all the tenderness of a fossilised sandal.nnThe seafood medley, including prawns, scallops, and calamari, were little golden grenades of disappointment, crunchy on the outside, and questionably mushy on the inside.nnA handful of yellow, nubby, flavourless chips huddled on the plate like confused extras.nnA small tangle of shredded lettuce tried valiantly to inject some health into the meal, while a miniature dob of tartare sauce waged war to mask the flavour.nnThe lemon wedge was a hostage, clearly begging to be squeezed to escape the tragedy.nnWould not recommend!
Cute cafe in downtown Goolwa serving a delicious array of cakes. Good coffee too! Service was quick, staff nice. I recommend this place
We ordered casa pasta, lamb yiros pack, a baby chino and a large cappuccino. Food was served in ordinary plates but drinks were in take away cups as we paid for 10 % surcharge for dine in on 2024 new year’s eve. We also ordered a piece of mud cake, passionfruit torte and Black Forest cake for my birthday. The waitress told me that mud cake and passionfruit cake were big pieces because the Black Forest cake run out. But the truth is the mud cake and passionfruit torte were left too old and too dry to eat and the Black Forest cake is still fresh and only has been cut a small proportion from it. The cakes were served in take away containers which we were happy with our hot food but were very disappointed with those take away containers. We would not recommend this restaurant to everyone as the waitress told a lie to us and the service was not so good. When we are leaving there, I saw a cleaning bucket was left on the cutlery area which is not very hygiene at all.
The best steak sandwich I’ve had for years. Huge hot pack feed as well. Very good prices as well.
