Beautiful and fulfillment experience for soul! All the voices sounds beautifully and my visitor experience was printed by the professionalism and devotion of the priest, the beauty of the church and the people.
Father Elpidios was my mother’s parish priest. He was ordained as Bishop in January 2020, and Father Terry Gerovasilis from Sydney, has taken on his role. I’ve been away from Perth for 15 years, and only returned here six months ago. So much of Perth has changed, but the church has been a comforting, unchanging presence. My mum died of cancer during the second wave and Father Terry was a great comfort to us, both for my family, and during her final days. The Church of Saints Constantine and Helen is actually designated a cathedral, meaning a church run by a bishop, although sometimes a church of a particularly large size or population will also be designated a cathedral even without a bishop attached to it. Two things visitors to the church should be aware of: firstly, that initially Perth only had two Greek Orthodox churches, so if locals refer to “the red church” they mean this one, as it is made with red brick, whereas when people say “the white church” they are referring to the Church of the Evangelismos in Carr Street, West Perth, which has a white “pebble-crete” type-finish. Secondly, the church parishioners usually sit gender-segregated with women on the left and men on the right. However, this is a tradition mainly for local parishioners, not for visitors. Visitors will normally sit with whoever has brought them, for example, when my Russian Orthodox father attended, he would sit with me or my mum on the women’s side. This is why you will see a scattering of men and women on the opposite side to the majority. Children will sit with their parent, usually their mother, until they are old enough to attend unsupervised.
Our grandson was christened here and the priest made us feel very welcome, and a part of the ceremony. Very ornate and culturally rich setting.

Built by the Greek community in 1935–37, the Church of St Constantine and St Helene was the result of many years of community fundraising and planning. The design chosen for the Byzantine-style church was based on the Saint Constantine Cathedral of Castellorizo, an island in Greece. Designed by Harold Boas of architectural firm Oldham, Boas and Ednie-Brown, the church has changed little since it was built. The adjoining Hellenic Community Centre was completed in 1969 as a new venue for social functions and a meeting place for Hellenic organisations.
