Great authentic stuff. The only complaint I have is the corn chè. It's whole corn... It shouldn't be whole corn but more finely choppednOther than that it's great, not too sweet. Love the hột lựu. Amazing.nThe Viet street food is an AMAZING TOUCH and is a must try
Great variety of Vietnamese inspired desserts. Delicious sweets and very reasonable pricing. I tried the coconut coffee dessert and enjoyed that it was rich but not overly sweet. The portion size was extremely generous as well.
Nestled in Melbourne's vibrant food scene, Saigon Desserts is a Vietnamese dessert haven that promises a sweet escape from the ordinary. Think of it as a sugar-laden adventure where you never quite know what delightful weirdness you're going to get.nnOur visit was a bit of a textural rollercoaster, primarily because we inadvertently ordered a selection of chè that all seemed to have the same bouncy, chewy consistency. For the uninitiated, chè are traditional Vietnamese sweet soups or puddings made with an array of ingredients like beans, jellies, and coconut cream. Picture it: bowls of mysterious, squishy delights that could either be the best thing you've ever tasted or a surprise party for your taste buds.nnDespite our rookie mistake of ordering a chewy overload, there was something undeniably charming about Saigon Desserts. The flavors, though texturally monotonous, were rich and authentic, giving us a sweet peek into Vietnamese culinary traditions. Each bowl of chè felt like a little adventure, though admittedly, some were more Indiana Jones and others were more like a quiet stroll in the park.nnThe staff, probably used to wide-eyed newcomers like us, were friendly and helpful, even as we navigated our chewy conundrum. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, the kind of place where you feel comfortable making a mess as you dig into your dessert.nnWill we go back? Absolutely. Next time, armed with a bit more knowledge and a sense of humor, we’re determined to uncover the full spectrum of textures and flavors that Saigon Desserts has to offer. Because if there’s one thing we learned, it’s that chè is as diverse and delightful as it is unpredictable.nnIn short, Saigon Desserts is a lovely spot for anyone looking to indulge in authentic Vietnamese sweets. Even if your first attempt is a textural misadventure, it’s well worth a return trip. After all, isn’t life just one big, chewy bowl of chè?
Been living in Footscray for more than 3 years and didn't found this little gem until this weekend through a friend recommendation.nnThis place is awesome, all the Saigon snacks that I haven't had in years since I have not travelled to Vietnam. Note that there are minor tweaks in the recipe so it won't be a 1 for 1 of what they are like in Vietnam.nnBut it certainly does have a good representation of the flavours.nnI wish the sizing was a little bit bigger, especially the savoury sticky rice.nnBut most dishes are
It has a menu with a lot of Vietnamese dessert types from North to South in Vietnam. Overall, they are quite good and authentic. Some items' flavours are quite matching with what are served in Vietnam.nnIt is quite popular in the area and among Vietnamese communities in Melbourne's west side. Queueing might be required during peak time.nnHowever some staff are quite rude to customers that let down the experience. Hopefully they correct the behaviours and make customers feel welcomed as they deserved.
