Sabai Cafe

Story

We are a family-run cafe/restaurant with great, beautiful, staff.

At Sabai, we like to keep things as local and home-grown as possible. From Clare Valley free-range eggs, local, free-range pork and chicken and pasture fed beef to fresh and organically grown herbs and chillies in Yai’s garden. We select seasonal seafood, Australian where possible, and recipes are inspired by each individual product. Using quality produce is important to us and allows us to create fresh and flavoursome dishes for you.

This place is a gem. The wait staff totally got us. We started with a beer $5 and spring rolls browsing the menu. All dishes are nutritious and yummie. We chose the stir fry prawns with greens to share. Seriously, amazingly good. We then had another browse and ordered the pad thai. It’s was up there with the first dish. After sharing those two servings we were full but extremely high and happy. Definitely a place to visit in Glenelg. It’s just a 5 minutes walk from Jetty Road. After dinner it’s worth the romantic finish by walking along the beach side. XO
We have been to this Cafe numerous times over the years and I can honestly say we have never had a bad meal. The food is authentic and beautifully cooked, the staff friendly and engaging. Granny's apple pie - best pastry I've had in a long while!
One of our favourite restaurants.. Pete and staff are so accommodating and food is always fresh and amazing.. just make sure you book well in advance for bigger groups as always busy
Excellent Thai infusion we had the Red Curry Duck, Brown Rice and Pork with Pepper and Garlic. Service with an absolute Smile very reasonable pricing. Would we come again - Absolutely.Food: 5/5
I came to Sabai cafe for the reviews, and I don't regret. Everything was full of flavour. Beef massanan was tender and delicious and the red duck curry was very tasty.
New review July 2020: we finally came back here for dinner after such a long time, and we were certainly not disappointed! The food was really amazing . . For entrees, we got some vegetarian curry puffs, crispy chicken wings, and fish cakes - all were super yummy, and we devoured everything immediately. . For the mains, our favourite dish must have been the tamarind prawns - it was so tasty! Lovely tamarind sauce with tender prawns; perfect combination. The Pad Thai with chicken was nicely done. The pork belly was amazing. And the Choo Chee tofu was really good too! Couldn't really fault anything. Highly recommended!
I called to book a dinner late on a Thursday for Friday night, and Sabai were very accomodating in fitting us in early as it was going to be very busy. We had a nice table in their beautiful back area. The staff were lovely and accessible. Highly recommend the food as it was delicious and a good portion when ordering an entree and main. We also had three vegans in the group and there was plenty of options which were all thoroughly enjoyed. We also liked the byo drinks option. Will definitely be returning soon for dine in or takeaway! Thank you Sabai!
So disappointing after eating here previously. Mains were hardly recognisable as Thai food and certainly not as described on the menu or as expected from a good Thai restaurant. Indifferent service too so we won’t be back. It was as if the chef didn’t turn up and someone else had a go.
Yi and Pete are excellent hosts and Yi's food is outstanding - traditional Thai and safe for Coeliac's - nearly all gluten free. We often pick up takeaway but dining in is also excellent - indoor, outdoor or private room. Highly recommend. Dietary restrictions: Coeliac safe and delicious! They use all gluten free sauces, and have a separate fryer for the only gluten containing option curry puffs.
A great local place with delicious Thai food. I had the tamarind prawns and the were super yummy. Definitely recommended and I'd c9me again if I was in the neighbourhood
