We had six people in a group here last night. The beer was great, the lamb was excellent as was the pasta. However….nnThe nachos were terrible, cold, no flavour, soggy corn chips. The beef tasted like mince cooked with no salt or anything else. Two of our group had the nachos and couldn’t finish them. If we hadn’t ordered them this would have been a 4 star experience! Try harder guys!
What a delightful, comfortable and convenient stay we had here. The room was spacious and the bed was really comfortable. I slept like a log on the comfortable mattress and nice, crisp sheets. It felt like home when we traipsed downstairs for meals and/or drinks. We walked to the farmer's market at the river's edge as well as other sites in town, so the location was perfect. We loved our stay.
Booked in for a group meeting three to four weeks prior to the meeting for the Snug area. Confirmed the week before only to be told that we were being removed to the restaurant. Went in two days later to enquire about the change. Was told they couldn’t put a long table in the area. I explained the four tables seating four at each was what I wanted. Only problem was that in the meantime two other bookings had been taken for that area. After I said I had booked weeks earlier was told she would look into it and ring me. Later that day I had a phone call to say I had booked first and we could have the Snug. BUT when I arrived today we were in the restaurant and another group was in the Snug. When I questioned this I was informed firstly that that group regularly meet in that area , secondly any group of eight or more are put at a long table. This was news to me and I was told I should have requested separate tables, a pity that this was not conveyed when I booked.THE WORST PART WAS THE WAY THE DUTY MANAGER SPOKE TO ME. There are a lot of other places we can meet that I am sure will be more welcoming.
This is a truly lovely wee hotel. We recommend the muesli for breakfast it is made in house. Bed was comfortable. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Special mention to Sue the housekeeper who is a true legend with her enthusiasm and care for detail.
Gorgeous historic pub in the centre of equally gorgeous Wanganui. Lovely people and a great place for a weekend break or longer. The bed was one of the comfiest I've ever been in and the room was superb.
