Did the Dome Promenade Guided Tour. Took the opportunity to explore the buildings significant history and learn how it was used over time. 139 steps to get to the top. 8 levels. You can use the elevator if you don’t want to do steps. The Royal Exhibition Building is beautiful inside and out—and a true landmark of Melbourne.
Brilliant tour! Fascinating history - really brought to life by Matt - our thoughally engaging tour guide! Great views from the Promenade & great insights into the past from the various historical photos and items on display. Included in the ticket for the tour is entry to the museum. Allow an extra hour to explore the Melbourne gallery - and immerse yourself in the detail of the numerous objects that illustrate the stories of times past. Set aside most of the day if you want to explore the whole museum!

Beautiful building. I visited this place during the International Flower Show on 31 Mar 2023. The place was transformed into flower heaven! Must visit for a walk along the beautiful Carlton Gardens! It is just beside the Melbourne Museum, so you can easily cover two attractions in one day!
Traditional building in the heart of Carlton. The inside is wide and comfortable for exhibitions and functions. I visited it in occasion is the Christmas Market 2022. I admired the paintings in the walls and the ceilings. Parking is not easy, I preferred to take the public transport to get there. Trams 86 and 96 leave you practically at the doorstep. I attach some pictures of that event to illustrate my experience.
Magnificent building to see and explore. One of the few UNESCO World Heritage locations in Australia. I was lucky enough to tour the newly renovated dome - which has not been open for a 100 years. Recommend you visit to see the history.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedYes
We did the Dome Promenade tour and it was AMAZING! So interesting to get up close and personal with an important building in the history of both Melbourne and Australia. The views from the Dome platform were incredible- see pics - I'm very grateful we had a sunny day. The exhibition in the basement was interesting, and I loved seeing the artwork closer than I'd ever seen it on previous visits. This tour is a must do for locals and visitors alike our group had locals mixed with domestic and international tourists but plan ahead and book early, it you'll miss out.
Went her during the Melbourne International Flower & Garden Show…it was on a Saturday and was too busy could not enjoy the show because we only had a glimpse of each showcase due to so many people. A bit pricey too! We could have gone on a Sunday afternoon which was cheaper and probably a lot quieter and merchandise could have been cheaper by the closing period. But hey! it would have been very nice showcase as I can see everyone taking pictures professionally. Loved the plants for sale and of course the food. Parking was easy underground the Melbourne Museum on a flat rate sorry could not remember the price.
My first ever GABS and man...this venue was perfect. I loved being inside it, I love getting stuck in there with 4.5k people and most of all it was so spacious and the building itself has an aura I can't quite explain!
The REB Dome Promenade Tour is awesome!! Highly recommended! To learn about the history of this beautiful, historical UNESCO World Heritage building! Everyone should do this tour! It can help with restoring the internal paintings too if the building which have ironically began drying out when the drainage was redone!
