A nice tribute to Roy Emerson, with a status and a small museum. The museum was mostly a room with lots of information on the walls, and a nominal fee to enter $2. Mostly people sitting and talking in the museum when we entered, with some awkward looks when we entered unfortunately...
This museum is so special to the Blackbutt and Sth Burnett area. The history of local tennis identity Roy Emmerson, who was a household name in the 50s for his wins at Wimbleton, is legendary. A lot of the literature on display was donated by Roy and family a must visit if you love tennis and all Roy's timeline of events leading uo to his fame!nThe museum also holds an immense wealth of knowledge of other local families who have pioneered the area.nMy visit was to find out more about historical cemeteries and the timber industry.nThe ladies were extremely helpful, providing booklets, photos, and a plethora of pamphlets on many subjects!nThis small museum is run by volunteer staff, and it's a credit to them!nThank you, ladies, for taking the time to provide answers to questions and point out which booklet was the best to peruse.nIf you're passing through Blackbutt, call in, donate your coin to open up the past, you won't regret it and you may just learn how vital the retaining statistics is so worthy, for now and future generations.
Great tribute to local boy Roy Emerson. Great memories of his career. Loads of local info too.
