Rockhampton Hospital

Story

Rockhampton Base Hospital is the largest major hospital in Central Queensland, Australia. Operated by Queensland Health as a public hospital, the hospital offers a wide range of medical services to a population of about 230,000 throughout the Rockhampton, Gladstone, the Capricorn Coast and Emerald communities.GeographyThe hospital is located in The Range about 4 km from the Rockhampton CBD, on a block bounded by Canning Street, North Street and Quarry Street.HistoryThe Rockhampton Hospital site at The Range was established in 1867, and was the second site of a hospital in the city. However, none of the buildings from the 19th century survive. The present buildings of the hospital are from the 20th and 21st century. Two of the 20th century buildings are heritage listed: a medical superintendent's residence constructed in 1936 the Therapies Building (a former Outpatients Department incorporating the purpose-built Kenny Clinic built in 1938 to implement the physical therapies of Sister Elizabeth Kenny for the treatment of poliomyelitis)RedevelopmentIn early 2014 a new $160 million eight-storey ward block opened, housing 3 levels of cancer services and will also accommodate 70 additional inpatient beds. A helipad opened in early 2015 to enable better transport.

I went to the Emergency Department on Tuesday night with chest pains. The service I received was simply amazing. The staff are so courteous and helpful in all areas, the nurse who took care of me was excellent and so knowledgeable and the doctor on duty was very thorough. A big THANKYOU to all concerned
Can't fault these wonderful people Drs, nurses and support staff, yes waiting times are fluctuate but of course the busier they are the longer the wait but really exceptional service all round. Oh and even the food prepared there is as good as you cook at home. I can cook so I know good food from Pal. I said I would , Thanks Elly your sandwich was wondering
I went to the emergency department with severe leg pains I was checked in at emergency then was dumped into the waiting room for two and half hours. I was sitting there in pain I have cancer and I get blood clots because of it finally seen by doctor and as the usual practice was sent home with pain killer prescription. I am under cancer care at this hospital and am inder treatment for blood clots but no tests were done just doctor looked at my leg and he said read my medical file but could not tell me the name of my oncologist at the same hospital . I cant lay down pain is so bad in my leg and cant sleep because of it. It is not first time have been fobbed off by emergency department. Only way would go back there if was out of control.
Worst health care that I have experienced. Extreme pain due to bilateral breast cancer, fractions ribs on so forth. It was not busy, the staff were to busy talking to each other rather seeing me and After 4 hrs I left, oh yes, I did faint due to pain and they left me on bed near the nursing station. No one asked how my pain was, or my PTSD. Without permission or explanation, took my blood for BSL. I left with great pain and it took. 1.5 hrs before they realised that I had left, considering my history, Trust me when I say, that majority of Rockhampton people are so annoyed. Department of veteran affairs will be investigating, trust me on hat.
I went to the Rockhampton hospital with severe depression & suicidal thoughts, I was kept waiting for over 4 hours before I gave up, they called & said they had a plan for me so I went back next day & was told I had to wait another 6 hrs. The psych unit should be separate, the hospital has no idea they are dealing with peoples lives when it comes to mental health. Look up the Sunday tv episode about Sarah Preece online & educate yourself the hospital got sued but much worse people are dying.13 men a day commit suicide in Australia & when you do ask for help that's what you get.
I currently have a severely broken ankle, so bad it requires surgery and is broken in three places. Everyone I have met thus far has been incredibly kind and very helpful. Especially all the amazing people in emergency, fast track, radiology and orthopaedics. Incredibly grateful
From the nurses to the doctors to the wardsmen and the cleaners, Rockhampton Hospital is filled with dedicated people who truly care about patients. I’ve never been in a better hospital. I felt safe, I felt secure and, most of all, I felt these people not only want to save my life, they know how to do it. Aside from being embraced by their wonderful care and competence, it was like being plunged into a world of kindness. I honestly don’t know how I can ever repay the doctors and nurses for what they’ve done for me. From now on, if I’m sick, Rockhampton Hospital is where I want to be. The only place. Thank you all from the bottom of my [damaged] heart. I love you too.
Obviously a wait and when eventually the nurses were amazing and most time drs are fantasic but on a couple of occasions I find the drs a waste of time
Got the job done BUT Endless bureaucratic paperwork often repetitively completed consumes nurses attention at the expense of actual hands on patient care The few good nursing practitioners are overworked and run off their feet providing good nursing care. The rest who are the majority seem to not understand/practice the ethos of nursing at all -autonomy, justice, beneficence, non malificence. I witnessed nursing rudeness, lack of respect of patient privacy, lack of respect of patient personal needs/wishes. I witnessed a nurse belittle and ridicule and fully expose a naked patient in an open mixed gender ward. In summary actual genuine care for the patient and their well being seems to be a non existent. I hope and pray I’m never sick enough to need to be admitted to any hospital but in particular this hospital.
I brought my 5 month old baby into Emergency with covid. He wasn’t doing too well and the nurses and doctors went above and beyond to make sure he was feeling better!
