Lived here when I studied abroad March 2020. And I would caution anyone against staying here. The biggest issue was with the management. They day and night staff are both extremely cold and unhelpful. One example of this was a mouse in my room, and when I told the “night manager” I was told to deal with it and wait until morning. When I requested to change my room, after the mice problem did not resolve with treatment, I still had to pay a room change fee. One other example is when I was forced to return home because of a global pandemic and they only refunded me less than 25% even though I had only stayed there 20% of the expected time. They then billed me for cleaning issues and held on to every penny they could unnecessarily. I could list many more issues as there were many other moments where the staff was incredibly mismanaged. For the price, you do not get many amenities, and there are many other places to live.
It does the job. I stayed here for 6 months, and while I avoided the party life and managed to survive for the most part, the music blaring through your window at midnight will prevent you from studying very much. Small rooms, the shower is literally the worst shower I've ever been in fluctuates so fast from cold-hot that you don't even have time to jump out, but the facilities are decent for the price you pay.
Caught on fire, currently flooded, evacuations at 4am because the fire alarms are out to get you, must exchange limbs to use the laundry, rooms are real small, appliances are usually functional but maintenance likes to damage walls and repairs are optional unless you actually ask to have the big holes filled. That being said it's a great place to meet new people and kick off a first year at uni, but if you want a functional house this is not it.
Everything starts out great but the longer you live there you start to realise how much the management, especially the security restrict your independence. The events are fun during O-week but can also be poorly organised and after O-week they just lose appeal as they become more childlike. Although I met fantastic people here I would not attribute any of that to the management or events, I stayed 6 months And I am incredibly glad I did not spend the whole year especially when considering the overpriced rent. The security is by far the worst aspect as they head guard is on some kind of power trip and enjoys making life hard for most of the residents. The rules also make is quite difficult to have friends who are outside the village stay over or even hang around and have a drink. Overall even thought I valued my time here I feel the managements concern for the residents was mostly a facade to keep you in a overpriced and small room.
It started out great it turns out to be worse and worse... the village now is a construction site and the construction starts at 7am. When it finishes at 5:30pm, the construction noise is soon replaced by loud music and noisy party people, and the staff did not do anything about it.... Frequent false fire alarm, constant water outrage, and unresponsive staff members..... Plus the room is overpriced and tiny with poor sound-proof. Strongly suggest new uni students to go find somewhere else
DO YOURSELF A FAVOR... DON'T LIVE HERE. DON'T. It is a mess. An absolute mess. The fire alarm rings every five seconds, no hot water, no gym. They have lost my mail and blamed it on my name being complicated. Half the time the reception is closed. They are always losing stuff. The rooms give you absolutely no privacy. For the amount of money they charge, DON'T DO IT. The location is not even next to the university. It takes about 15-20 minutes to get to RMIT. The return bond process is an absolute mess. WHATEVER YOU DO... DON'T LIVE HERE.
It's not a great place to live if you want to concentrate on your studies, as there's always noise, people, parties going on. It's too expensive with a pool and gym for your basic student needs. Staff aren't that nice, friendly or supportive of your academic needs. It's more of a "party" place and a transit point from Melbourne airport. You can get better accomodation and bang for your buck! in a share house, where you can ACTUALLY study for once.
Don’t come here if you want to study. People here are having party everyday until late night. You wouldn’t get enough rest. The RAs are either useless or deaf, they don’t ask party animal to stop making noise. There’s construction going on everyday starting from 6:30am, trust me, you won’t like at all. There’s also strange smell in this place that makes you want to throw up when you enter. It’s expensive and very bad place, and on top of it, you have to pay extra more for wifi, the washing machines and dryers are coin operated. I strongly suggest don’t come here!!!
Rooms are tiny for the price, a double room was originally a single hotel room. Inside the rooms, there is no oven only a stove top that hardly works, and water pressure thats laughable. If you can afford a single room its worth it, but really the only reasons I gave it 3 stars and not lower is because of the location, it being very very close to the unis and the cbd, and the gym and pool are quite reasonable if you plan on using them. Not a socialite? Not reccomended. Enjoy making friends, parties, and general going out type stuff, this might be for you.
Rooms are overpriced and claustrophobic. Village was turned into a construction site without warning. construction noise from 7am. Amenities that were closed down at the start of the year are no longer available such as basic things as a kitchen. Upper management dose not seem to care about the affect on residents. The only saving grace is the 15 minute walk to Melb central or RMIT uni
