I haven’t been to New Zealand for a couple of years went past and in the new library and was surprised very beautiful inside and outside my mother loves it and raves about it
I am just BLOWN AWAY! my daughter a WHANGAPAROA resident took me to see the New Orewa Library, when I went last time it was the BOOK BUS! Fabulous building designed to impress and be used. Fit for purpose I say. My photos show impressive architectural details the book displays and efficient service counter staffed by very knowledgeable librarians. I visit a lot of public buildings libraries are fascinating to me and this is at the top end of my scale!nArthur C. Charltonnwest Auckland NZ
Firstly I can't rave enough over the ability to reserve books or request new books be purchased and have a constant flow of reading material in a reasonable time frame......nHowever, the Orewa upgrade is abit underwhelming. Yes lovely modern environment but the lack of comfy seating or study space was quite a surprise. The upstairs needs a rethink, seems like the meeting rooms would be better used as inviting quiet individual study spaces as the 3 times ive been up there there was noisey-ness.nThe reserved section dominates the central area drawing eveyone that visits attention. Would it have been better in the room to the left of the front door maybe and kids area appears rather dark in the winter like a little cave.
New upgrade is modern and fresh, yes, with a splendid children's section and 2 bathrooms !, but there is no space whatsoever for studying. All tables are tiny round coffee tables, barely wide enough to fit a laptop, and the teens section upstairs is basically half apocalypse... Too much empty space. You'd think the council would add more desks and more couches, but alas, there's nothing but those teeny tiny coffee tables scattered about. Which is a shame, because so many students will continue having to visit Whangaparaoa library, even if they live closer to this one, simply because Whangaparaoa has a multitude - an abundance - of study areas. Can't say I like this new library better than our old one.
Nice library, have gone here since I was a kid.nnI do find it ridiculous that, as a kid under 10 years old, I was able to recite my library membership number a 10+ digit number off by heart to the librarian but she wanted the card to be sure it was the right person. Who would memorize somebody else's library card number to get out books with no charge incurred?
