Story

The Regent Thai chefs carefully draw on the best of authentic Thai cuisine. We have been offering our customers outstanding service and meals for the past 20 years.

Your hosts, Te and Sanom and their friendly staff take pleasure in making your lunch or dinner an event to remember. The result is an enticing culinary journey hosted in a relaxed and comfortable environment. A particular specialty of the Regent Thai is the 'Atlantic Salmon with Coriander Sauce’.

Sanom and Te have been running Regent Thai for more than 10 years. However, their journey started a decade earlier, when Te’s brother-in-law saw an opportunity to bring Thai cuisine to the people of Adelaide, opening a restaurant in the Regent Arcade. When he retired, it was passed on to Sanom and Te, and they were tasked with continuing the tradition of tasty Thai food.

The menu places an emphasis on seafood – a reflection of the high quality produce that’s available to the kitchen team. Prawn choo chee, a tantalising combination of prawns, red curry paste, coconut milk, lime leaves, chilli and basil, sits above ginger fish, which includes a deep-fried whole barramundi topped with ginger, mushroom, spring onion and shallot.

Vegetarians are also well catered for, with a comprehensive veggie-only menu that includes pad thai, spring rolls and tom yum soup.

No matter what you’re ordering, Te, as the man on the floor, is always happy to adjust seasonings as required, so both spice savants and mild mavens will be sated.

The drinks list is just as detailed as the food menu, with a range of spirits, beers, ciders and wines on offer. South Australian wineries are front and centre; drops come from as far as the Clare Valley, as close as the Adelaide Hills and everything in between. There’s also a healthy mix of Australian and international beers, as well as non-alcoholic options.

Regent Thai dishes up the authentic Thai experience, smack bang in the middle of Adelaide. Stop by to say hello to Sanom and Te, try their fantastic food and walk out feeling very happy – and very full!

Had been curry chicken served in a pot, it had a stale smell. But the taste was mostly of strong spices. It big heap of rice was in the middle of the plate (extra cost). The pieces of chicken were too big and should have been cut properly as no knife was there. It was lunch and less than 10 people were there. Perhaps the stir fried dishes are better, but I doubt that this restaurant is authentic Thai.

Went to this place on a Saturday night. No doubt food was really good however, the service was terrible. Had to wait a good 40 minutes after entree for the mains, people who came after us were served beforehand. What was most disappointing though was that a caucasian waitress working there who bought out the mains tells me "I hope you did not die of starvation". I consider that extremely rude ans was super disappointed with that. Thats not how you treat a customer. I ask the restaurant manager/owner to make sure this person is the given the necessary feedback.

Fantastic food, although service can be a little slow.

Went on a Monday night and they weren't overly busy. Scallops for entree which were tasteless and rubbery. Seemed like a long wait for the mains which when they finally arrived were excellent which saved the dining experience but I don't think I'd rush back.
