Great place if you like Sichuan! Worth trying. Varying degrees of spiciness on dishes. Dishes are big so can order but more and take away for later too. Some of the dishes are great for a group of friends to just sit, nibble on and drink beer. Good place to spend a lazy weekend afternoon sitting at a table near the window and chatting.
After years of wondering, I finally tried this place out. Around 6pm on a week night, it was not busy. The entrance was somewhat dark but don't let that deter you. Ordered a fish dish, chicken and green beans. They were not as Sichuan peppery nor too spicy, so no need to get scared by the red sauce. We were pleasantly surprised how good the food was . Definitely returning for more!
If you love spicy food like me, must try! Fresh seafood see how angry is that fish, the teeth OMG Non spicy fan, we tried dumpling and noodle taste good too
This place used to be really good, but disappointed after my recent visit. Some dishes seemed to be made by a very inexperienced chef, very bland, tasteless and with bad presentation...the more expensive seafood dishes we ordered were still decent though. Also staff were helpful. Overall it definitely missed my expectations.
Service was good. However, quite frustrated with the food. I was surprised that a chain Sichuan restaurant could mess up Mao Xue Wang- very watery and tasteless.
Actually despite my lack of ability to eat spice, I really enjoyed this experience! The dishes that I did try were impeccable, full of flavour and very delicious. I def recommend their noodles, they were the high light of the meal for me. Actually my mum fell in love with the crayfish dish. I think they use fresh/local seafood because our friends noted that the crayfish has been bigger last time they were here. I assume this variation is size is normal given the seasonal nature of fresh seafood. All in all, impeccable service with delicious authentic Sichuan food, right in the heart of Chatswood - I really couldn’t ask for more! Although next time I might bring along some milk
30/08 - On our second visit, we ordered Hot Chilli Live Fish $39 with steam rice. The food was very good in portion more than enough for 2, I think 3 people could share the dish, spicy level 3, lot of red chillies appreciated the waiter proposing to scoop some so it would get easier for us to take the fish. I would give it a 4.5 if i could find any scope of improvements, as I could not, I would give it a 5. They even gave us bigger plates this time which i disliked previously and mentioned in the previous review. Our total bill was $48, although i think it is pricy but I am highly satisfied by everything. Great Job!! First Visit: An authentic Sichuan restaurant, located in a convenient location. Nothing to complain about, good staff, food came within 10 minutes of placing order, staff were good as well. We ordered: Hot Pot Beef $28 - 4/5. Although it looks / sounds extremely spicy it was bearable. Beef was tender, soaked in a lot of flavour. Deep Fried Chicken Dices with hot dry chilli $24.5 - 4/5. I was hesitating a bit before ordering but it was of surprise and definitely better than what i expect. The fried chicken dices were flavoursome and the overall dish was fiery. We ordered rice with these 2 dishes and seemed perfect as one item was saucy and the other was more spicy, this was a good balance in order. Portion was good as well. I only wish they gave us bigger plates, the plates were so tiny that i needed to refill my rice bowl atleast 5 times and more, which also means the food was good. Although i feel food was pricy, but I’d recommend a visit here when your taste bud is craving some authentic chilly :
This hot stuff will knock your socks off and numb the senses as well. Can't complain on the well prepared food; they are not oily as the Szechuan cooking in China. The place is fully packed, sometimes getting the attention of the waiters can be problematic, once attend to you, the service is thorough.
Depends on what you order, it can be 2 stars to 4 stars rating. Service is definitely lacking and very much hit and miss. Attached are some dishes I considered unique and tasty.
This place serves good delicious Sichuan food namely spicy beef and sour fish. The environment is quite classy Chinese with fine chinaware. Price is a bit expensive but judging by the crowd, the food must be worth the visit for many. My only gripe with this place was their dishes were not served all at the same time. Quite few dishes came after we almost finish our dinner.
