Finally got to come here a few days before they closed their doors. I was so impressed and the food exceeded my already high expectations. Would highly recommend if they open up in future and have similar dishes sticky eggplant and the cauliflower. Did not expect those two dishes to be my favourite but there you have it. Chinese bolognese and crab pasta were also really good. Wouldn't recommend the pork and prawn ravioli. Was more like a singular wonton. Tasty though but not very substantial. The panna cotta was yum but Ginger taste was very subtle. We wanted the pear tart but we had to be out for the next table at 8pm and the pear tart takes 30 min to prepare and it was too late when we tried to order :
There's an air of mystery about the place from the outside - all black and only a tiny sign on the door handle. Inside is a long black corridor filled with tables and the bustling activity of many diners. The server helfully explained the menu to us and soon we were anticipating our orders. The zucchini flowers with XO sauce had the best texture - engaging without being too hard or soft. I love XO sauce but the massive pool makes the dish much too salty and unbalanced in flavour for my tastebuds. The BBQ duck leg was tender but also quite salty and needs something else to offset it. I gulped more water than normal in that meal. My vegan friend had a small number of choices and was happy with her eggplant entree but felt the charcoal vegetables were average. The all black decor creates a romantic atmosphere and the service was on point so the rating reflects this. It's unlikely however that we'll be enticed back as our food experience wasn't so great.
A FIRST CLASS EXPERIENCE It was my first visit tro Ramblr. Went with three friends for an early dinner on Saturday. My friends were keen to go as Ramblr is shutting its doors for a short while soon and reinventing itself - same location, different theme. The restaurant is dark and moody with low lighting and dark themed decor. Its moderately noisy but we were lucky to score the table closest to the front. Our waiter was just delightful - well informed, helpful and polished .. but without the snootiness you often get in high end restaurants. We ordered a few dishes up front that others had recommended we try including the delicious pear tart tatin that you need to order 15 minutes ahead and then asked our waiter to put together a selection of dishes to compliment what we'd ordered. We were not disappointed . Every dish was perfectly presented and the whole meal worked together very well. We drank sparkling water and a light rose. It's a pity that I've only had one opportunity to dine at Ramblr, but given that the chef, ownership and our waiter will all still be there for the "rebirth" in a couple of months ..I'll certainly be back to try whatever it morphs into!
This is not a fine dining restaurant!! If you have that expectation you’ll be disappointed. Only the atmosphere is right, even the table is not top quality. Baron still has its intestine which is black and disgusting , also undercooked - staff said that’s how they normally cook it, but I’ve had Baron at Attica and Vue De Monde, I would know what’s the right level Also for those charcoal veggie, still raw and undercooked, for green bean some people may suffer from eating the raw beens so not good, they won’t allow take away anyway.
This restaurant serves ramen as their mains and combination of Chinese and Korean influence on the appetizers and entrees. The ramen is bland and not up to the japanese standard ramen. The cumin lamb is average in terms of flavour and the meat is soft which is a plus. Service is poor as the lady who served us seems to be unfriendly and cold. Was extremely keen to check out Ramblr after hearing about their new lunch menu. Being a huge fan of tsukemen I was very excited to give it a go. First of all the venue itself is exceptional. Beautiful fitout and plenty of bar seating where you can watch the chef's putting the dishes together. The tsukemen broth itself was extremely tasty albeit a little thinner then what I've had in Japan. The bitter greens worked really well, and the noodles had a nice bite, although again slightly thinner than the usual noodle. The egg was probably the highlight and one of the best eggs Ive ever had. Amazing taste and texture. Definitely the best tsukemen in Melbourne alongside Mugen. 26/05/2018 - went for dinner, and was even more impressed. The dishes were all sensational with the standout being the calamari noodles. Great service and atmosphere to go along with the fantastic meal.
Ramblr is one of my favourite restaurants in the Prahran/South Yarra area and within ramblr my favourite dish is the Chinese bolognese. I keep going back to it. A little bit of schezuan flavouring with some amazing hand pulled noodles. They do a great lunch now as well where you can get the Chinese bolognese in bun form! Extraordinary. Service is always prompt. They have great seats at the kitchen where you can watch the chefs do their thing. A great place to take colleagues or loved ones to as you can book ahead unlike most places along chapel street.
Fantastic every time, great wines and some of the best food in Melbourne. They make their own kimchi and the eggplant is to die for.
Really interesting food, these guys are pushing the boundaries and playing with some super bold flavours. Found some of dishes a tiny but overseasoned or lacking a tiny bit of balance. Wine list is interesting with a heavy natural/ international lean. It's well curated but on the spenny side. Expect to pay 80+ for a bottle.
Very good date spot. Great wine list. Our server let us to try a lot of wine before ordering. Menu is unusual but delish. Calamari noodles is a must
