It is a beautiful place! I enjoyed my adventure. That day the weather changed a lot, sometimes it was raining, then sunny, then cloudy and windy as well. Try to wear a waterproof jacket and comfortable hiking shoes . Some buildings are closed due to covidbut the most representative ones are open to visit. If you enjoy history and like to walk this is a perfect place.
We spent half a day exploring Port Arthur Historic Site we were very lucky to have beautiful weather. It is a great place to visit if you love walking and history. Tickets include the 40 minute walking tour and a 20 minute harbour cruise. The tour guide was great and very knowledgeable about the area and gave us a comprehensive overview of the history of the site. Well worth a visit while you're in Hobart.
Great place to visit if you love to walk and love history. The tour guides are great and very knowledgeable about the area. There is so much to see here like the beautiful gardens and the old prison. You can take a boat trip around the lagoon and have a meal at the restaurant. Well worth a visit.
A very interesting place to visit and learn about the history of the area. Definitely recommend the Convict tour with boat tour. The guides were fantastic, and happy to accommodate mobility challenges. There are great golf buggy type vehicles that can pick you up and take you around the different areas, which made it much easier to manage! It's also wheelchair and pram accessible for the most part, with raised walkways over most of the otherwise rough areas for easy access. The gardens are beautiful and there's a great cafe for lunch
Port Arthur is so well done. Yes, the entry ticket is on the pricey side, but it’s great value with a 40 minute walking tour and 20 minute harbour cruises included. Our guide was great and gave us a comprehensive overview of the history of the site. The harbour cruise was beautiful and it was definitely worth seeing the site and islands from the water. The memorial for the tragedy that occurred in 1996 is subtle, but somber and respectful. Port Arthur makes a great day trip from Hobart, with stops at Richmond, Tessellated Pavement, Tasman Arch, and Blowhole on the way.
What an amazing experience, so packed with history. The staff is friendly and very helpful, answering every question you might have. Good food and great coffee. We had a great time walking through almost every building, reading what happened and trying to understand what those people might have felt like. Being carted away from your home and family for stealing a bread or a coat. We are so lucky today. I would highly recommend a visit if you’re visiting Tasmania.
Was interesting to see Definitely has that eerie feel about it and the boat ride around the Island was also interesting too see the different parts and what they were used for too. The tombstones were interesting to look at but again very cold place with that eerie feeling. The whole site is 100 acres definitely need good walking shoes and 1 to 2 whole days to see everything. Good history sites and worth having a look at.
A huge place to explore. The weather was not kind to us. We booked a month before our trip. Fast service at the counter. We booked the walking tour which was very informative. We initially booked for the last ferry cruise because the weather kept changing we decided to have a quick lunch and change our timing to 1:40pm - yes we are able to change the timing so it’s pretty good service. Once we are done with the cruise we explored most of the grounds before heading to gallery and gift shop. We kept going in and out of the visitors centre as it was very windy and raining on & off. But it’s a good thing that there are lot of things to explore. 1830 restaurant is a must to dine in as the service & food was excellent. The cafes are good too for breakfast, lunch & brunch.
Amazing place, lots of historic information, beautiful view, should try the ferry trip as well, it’s worth of giving it a go. Normally tickets and car parking are available. The road trip journey is very good as well. There is a small beautiful cafe next to the reception area, pretty good food.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedYes
If you are looking for a nice day out and to learn about the history of Port Arthur, I would highly recommend visiting here. They do walking tour guides thank you Andrew for sharing all your knowledge and jokes. The cruise is highly recommended, only goes for 20 mins. I wish I had booked the other next time. And what I love is once you have done the tours, you can free roam and take it all in at your own pace. Amazing service.
