Before the new owners, Plucked, run by a kind quiet lady, served the best burgers, milkshakes and chips I had ever had - I became a regular. After she left, it was run by someone else for seemingly only a few weeks before being closed indefinitely. When I saw it was being renovated and presumably re-opened, I was skeptical. The first bad sign was that the brand now uses "plucked" as a euphemism to try and make it more memorable, which I find pretty classless and cheap cheep?. Anyway, I decided to give them a chance... The interior of the place is really nice - it seems a lot more spacious than before. They've utilised some TV screens for their menus, and so they can advertise local businesses and such. I always appreciate that, although the actual design / authoring of the menus, advertisements, animations, etc, was pretty poor. They've only just opened, so I don't blame them. Service was fine - they were friendly and very quick to serve + prepare the food. The ATM was a Commonwealth Bank branded tablet and they had some difficulty with it.. but, teething issues. The menu + food was of course more important.. there were only something like 3 types of burgers to choose from. Grilled chicken, chicken schnitzel, and beef. I went for the grilled chicken, and added cheese and bacon for $2 each. I should have removed the beetroot and a couple of other things.. I personally don't see beetroot as more of a staple for a burger than cheese, but anyway. I asked for it in a meal, of course, to try out the chips, but I forgot to ask if they served milkshakes. The cost for burger w/ cheese + bacon in a meal deal was $18. I would have been happy with this price if the quality matched the former Plucked, but alas.. The burger tasted OK, it tasted like any burger you would get at a typical chicken / fish shop. The bacon was particularly good, cooked well. The chicken was average, and the beetroot looked very pale. No hand-made buns, the burger had an off-the-shelf sesame seed bun. The chips weren't very good - again, I'd say pretty average. Some other local chicken shops or cafes do a much better job. I had asked for chicken salt and they offered their specialty salt, which I accepted. To be honest, it tasted mostly like plain salt with a slight 'tang'. Again, nothing special. Ultimately this is pretty disappointing as I doubt I'll ever enjoy the same burger that former Plucked used to serve. This is an entirely different menu + formula, with the same name.
Pretty decent burgers. As others said, if they improved the quality of the buns, my review would be even more favourable. Update 23/04/16. Buns have vastly improved. Much better. Also the chips could be a bit better. But that would be easy to fix. Only minor complaints but.
