4.5 star on Google rating brought us here. Super long queue which extended till the outside of the shop but thankfully people are social distancing! There are tables inside and outside of the shop and all were fully occupied. Not a whole lot of pies left when it was our turn, the display shelves only have a few options left. Tried their Chunky Steak and Pepper Steak, amazing flavour especially when they are hot from the oven! Pepper steak won! We also waited a while for their apple pies to be ready! Happy with the pies we had, definitely recommended when one's in Bilpin!
Pies were a bit exxy at $8 each. I bought a chicken and a chunky steak. Have only tried the chicken one so far. Delicious flaky pastry and HUGE chunks of chicken breast in a translucent white gravy. They were warm when I bought them so I refrigerated them when I got home an hour later. Popped the chicken one in the oven to heat easily. Crisp pastry and delicious filling.
Famous for their apple pies, people come from all sorts of directions just to try it! There are always lines and a full house, even including the outside seating. The staff are good at what they do and are relatively friendly. They have self service cutlery which is good but also nah be a bit concerning with Covid. There is a lot of outdoor seating most people just sit on the grass in front of the car park area and there are also toilet facilities. The pie itself was very nice - a well crisped casing holding sweet but not too sweet Bilpin apples. The pies can also be bought with ice cream, which adds another texture to the mix. Other than pies, they also sell jams and other pastries!
There are alot of 5 and 4 star reviews listed here and I'm shocked. Do yourself and favour, travel another 5 minutes down the road on bells line of road until you reach the grumpy baker, grab a pie from them and then go back to compare and review your current google rating. Pie in the sky has nothing majorily wrong with the product though the jelly and flavour has no backbone. The meat is nice and the pastry is nice though nothing memorable in my opinion. I had the steak and mushroom pie, 2 stars along with an apple pie 2 stars, the apple pie was just sweet covered with sugar and the flavour if any was overconsumed from the sugar. I would however give the parking arrangment plenty of parking the position of business with seating an extra star just for the environment and the Customer service was good, clear communication from staff and updates even when was busy, so they did well in that aspect as well.
Worth the trip , nice views on the way up. Great pies, good range, very full of meat. Apple pies were good Coffee was good. They had run out of tomato sauce not needed and eftpos luckily I had cash when I was there
Unpleasant pies and they don’t take eftpos. They take PayID and cash only. We came around 10am to grab a pie, it’s very rundown. They need to clean the outside tables. The person taking orders didn’t add the coffee onto my order. The owner has little aggressive dogs that are off leash. We came with our fur baby on a leash and her dogs can over to ours and the little white dog tried to bite us.
The pies are AMAZING!!!!! We had chunky steak, beef and mushrooms, chili beef, and apple pie… all delicious. I don’t care about the shop looks or rural blocked toilets. The pies are what i’d be going there for…. again and again and again. Good job!
Quality pies - meat and apple crumble particularly. Wasn’t so keen on the chicken, but this is good quality food. Staff exceptional on a busy and sunny Sunday.
Had a few different types of pies - apple, chilli beef, beef mushroom, pepper beef, lamb. We also had cheese toastie which was yum. My favourite was chilli beef. The lamb wasn't anyone's favourite. Others like beef mushroom.
OMG. We made a tour from Sydney and back just for the Apple pie. It’s to die for. We’ve tried all the others from the shops further down the road but they’re not as good as those. Crusty, fresh and warm. Steak and lamb ones are also perfectly nice! xx
