I've visited Pie in The Sky a few times over the last 12 years or so, and always appreciated what they're trying to do. These days the food is very average though - the pies are quite plain and dry, and really nothing special compared to other Melbourne bakeries. My best decision on my last visit was actually a chocolate milkshake, which was very nice. I found the service to still be very good, apart from a slight mix-up with our order, and it was all very kid-friendly. Even after 2pm, it was very busy on a summer weekday for both dining in and takeaway.
Pre covid I often came here with my family and enjoyed the pies but disappointed to say they are not what they used to be. We ordered 3 pies : cheese, chicken & mushroom, cheese bacon onion. They were pretty bland in flavour only the chicken pie you could really taste all ingredients inside. They came out of the pie-Warmer and we’re just ridiculously too hot on the hands and mouth. We Waited 5 minutes and they were still extremely hot inside. Unfortunately do not think I would return again. Also it was only open for take away and toilets not open to customers
Had a lovely lunch here. Best milkshake I have had in years. Unless you have a very large appetite , the nachos are delicious and easily serve 2! The pie variety's is huge, vegetarians catered for too.
First time trying "Pies In The Sky" so I got the Beef Guinness, vanilla slice and lemon tart. The Guinness crust and was golden and crunchy, the beef was tender, but the sauce filling was a bit dry and not hot enough in temperature. The pies were well priced and a good size. They also offer tomato sauce on every table, so it's complimentary if you dine in. I ordered a soy latte which did the job but next time I'll order it strong. The vanilla slice was just what I needed to wash it all down. Customer service was quick and attentive at FOH. There was a small wait on the coffee but this was at Sunday lunchtime, so waiting was warranted. Disappointed to read the negative reviews about lack of table service? The cafe offers simple food offerings, so it makes sense to line up at the front counter to order, particularly on weekends when they are slammed. Just be patient and wait in line like everyone else!
One of the best places to try pies in Australia. Decent size pies for a very decent price. Their desserts are pretty good too. Love their Tandoori Chicken pie . The place is always busy, sometimes hard to get a seat or the wait is quiet longer. The staff here are nice and helpful. Love getting the pies when we go for a drive to Olinda.
Award winning pies in the heart of some of Victoria’s urban undulating scenic treasures, Olinda. So let’s break it down… Atmosphere: ***** Excellent – Has a really nice cottage feel to it; with warm colours and décor, it really gives you the feeling that you are going over to your friends place for lunch and a chat. Even with the large indoor area for seating, it still retains that homely feeling. Seating outside is available and recommended on a great day but is limited. Customer Service: ***** Real well done – There is seating service but not for ordering your food, this is done at the counter and your order will be brought to you. The representative we had was very welcoming, kind and informative, thank you. After ordering, the food was delivered in about 7 minutes, beautifully hot and ready to go. While the plates weren’t bussed, or the food not checked on while we were seated – we were allowed to stay for a long while soaking up Olinda town with its visitors. Food why we are here: ***** Order: Classic Aussie Meat Pie, Broccaulcheez V, chips and skinny flat white Complimentary water is provided With both pies, it is hard to not say “wow” when biting through the soft but flaky pastry, really something to experience. Classic Aussie Meat Pie - Delicious, excellent spices, thick rich gravy and nice beef Broocaulcheez V - Great Vegetarian Option and very tasty as a no meat option Chips – Good but could be a little better Coffee – Outstanding, made very well. Worth every cent – the pies are not really that expensive for the flavours and expertise. You can see why they are award winning. Overall: Definitely a must try! And highly recommend! It was a great lunch after exploring some of the local walking paths around the area to get the appetite up, also something I would recommend. Well Done Pie in the Sky!
I went there expecting pie floater but not available. I ate in didn’t have an issue with ordering and paying at counter, food was delivered promptly on China plate with silver cutlery. The beef and Guinness pie I had was quite good.
We were so hungry, we didn’t take any photos of the pies. But hey, they were deliciousooo. The place is cute. The bathroom was very clean and had cute notes on the wall.
We tried the beef and mushroom, broccoli and cauliflower as well as the pumpkin pie! The flavours of the vegetarian pies tasted better than the beef & mushroom, but even then it was nothing too special. The meat pie was super bland, definitely needed more salt, and was hard to eat without the tomato sauce. The overall experience was very average, tastes like store bought pies that you microwave yourself
Place used to be good for many years but noticed the drop in service over the past few months post lockdown and today was the ultimate. An extremely rude guy who when asked what his name was just said he was the boss. Ordered at 1325 and food did not arrive in expected time frame. Gave the girl a wave from outside window asking her the statues of the order with order number and in five mins The boss came out and did not apologise but rather went in to say don't knock in the window many times as it intimidates his staff. Said this In a rude manner. Answered saying did not Knock many times and he said he was going to check on the order. Returned less than two mins with the food and said that is all he is offering and that he can't offer a refund. The food arrived at 1404 with attached photo. This boss was extremely rude and would not recommend this joint to anyone and will be telling everyone know about this and to avoid this place. The boss can have all the tourist dollar. Rude and arrogant Boss will go nowhere
