Amazing experience! You will see penguins exiting the water in the evening and going to feed their kids. Beware: it is forbidden to take photos of them. Also, it is usually dark, so the seeing is not the best. As well, the guards are rather strict, and you should sit quiet all the time. Might be hard for very young children. Restrooms: There are restrooms inside Dog-friendliness: The dogs can scare the penguins, so do not bring them Picnic area: There is a cafe inside. Beware: it closes before you finish watching the penguins.
Amazing experience. Rangers are extremely knowledgeable and more than happy to answer our questions. Better to go early to catch the best seats. There are 3 types of seats available, book accordingly. Carry a good jacket with a hood and a nice blanket to sit on as it's quite chilly even in spring. If you are lucky, you can catch glimpses of sea lions and other wild life. They provide you with an estimated time of arrival of penguins. Strictly no photos are allowed after sunset as camera flashes can harm penguins' eyes which are sensitive to blue light.
Great experience which the family thoroughly enjoyed. Get their early to get good seats if in general admission. Make sure you prepurchase tickets well in advance because tickets do sell out quickly parking is plentiful and their is a gift shop and restaurant on site. No photography allowed after sunset to protect the penguins.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedYes
It took us approximately 2 hours from Melbourne. Please check the weather before you go and definitely pre book the tickets if you are going on a weekend or public holiday. Staff were very helpful and friendly. Had a really nice day... it drizzled quite a bit. But the little penguins made it all worth. Must visit if you are near Melbourne. Take a beach blanket and a jacket to encounter these cute beings. Saw some people breaking rules when the rangers were not around as we headed back.. and clicked pictures of these penguins ... please don't do that.
P...p...p...pick up a Penguin! An absolute must do experience in Phillip Island! I love Penguins more than my own mother, and this didn't disappoint. I visited late August 2022 and we saw probably around 1,500 via the 'Underground' experience. The Penguins were incredible! Despite them not speaking English, I felt like I was invited to their family get together and having a great yarn with them! Especially Nigel, he was a riot! This is such a worthwhile experience. You have to do this when you visit Phillip Island. Better than meeting Phillip himself.

So amazing to watch the penguins just waddle past. Get the plus package if you're short sighted like me as I think it's well worth it. The Rangers are great and informative and actually enforce the rules. No cameras, keep quiet as not to scare the penguins etc. Bring a beanie and a coat as even in autumn it was quite cold. Get there about 5pm and goes until about 7pm
This is an out of this world experience watching the penguins returning after a long and hard day at sea to feed their chicks! Sitting there staring, looking for the first one to turn up, signaling to the others 'it's OK guys', and suddenly the beach is alive! Come in good time to get a good seating, listen to the rangers, and prepare yourself. Spend some time at the center going through all the useful information there's a lot!. The images are provided by the Penguin Parade as photographing is prohibited to protect the penguins.
First of all you need to be patient to see the penguins. They arrive after the sunsets. Too cold out there. Make sure u take your jacket, blankets and bunny. The penguins are too adorable. Friendly staffs there. The best part is beautiful atmosphere and amazing view. Specially on the way back the bush looks out of the world with the lights. Apart from penguins u can also see the kangaroos. They are also cute enough to make your day. If you are visiting Phillip Island, u don't miss this exciting event.
We decided to buy the underground viewing due to the intense weather- it was cold, rain and windy. The view from under ground viewing was at our eye level which was an excellent experience. We were happy with that extra spend to have enjoyed watching the penguins waddle to their nest from so close proximity. I would sincerely recommend visiting these dwarf beauties return home.
