A small and convenient shopping centre popular with locals, featuring a variety of handy services and great little eateries along the edges. Downstairs you’ll find Ritchies supermarket, a pharmacy, hair salons, a barber, eyebrow beautician, phone repair shop, florist, masseuse, and a couple of cosy coffee shops. Upstairs, there’s the Palace Cinema and a delicious dumpling restaurant.
The mall has enough shops for basic essentials and a few decent bars.nWe came all the way here to admire the facade of this historical prison but didn’t went for the tour.
This is such a an amazing place. I was amazing at the incorporation of original architecture and modern aspects that have been incorporated.nnThere are loads of shops and cafes here for everyone. I will definitely be returning.
Pentridge, once a notorious prison in Coburg, Melbourne, has undergone a dramatic transformation into a modern urban precinct. Officially known as HM Prison Pentridge, it operated from 1851 until its closure in 1997. For nearly 150 years, it housed some of Australia's most infamous criminals and was known for its harsh conditions and imposing bluestone walls.nnAfter the prison was decommissioned, the site remained largely unused for years. Eventually, a major redevelopment project was launched to preserve its historic value while repurposing the space for contemporary use. Today, Pentridge has been reimagined as a vibrant lifestyle destination featuring a shopping mall, restaurants, cafés, residential apartments, a cinema, and even a boutique hotel.nnDespite its new identity, many of the original prison structures have been retained and incorporated into the design, blending the old with the new. Visitors can still explore parts of the historic prison through guided tours, giving them a glimpse into its eerie past while enjoying the comforts of a modern commercial hub.nnThe redevelopment of Pentridge stands as a striking example of adaptive reuse, turning a symbol of confinement into a place of community, culture, and commerce.
I love this place. Has a few coffee shops, my fave being Mela. There's a lovely cinema, delicious Chinese Restaurant, Ritchie's with a great range of everything really. Outside there is the Boot Cafe and Brewdog. A great little place to shop.
