When asked for a tax return to obtain a car loan, we didn't get an email explaining 'sorry, we can't do this until your outstanding account is cleared' - simply an email with a bill owing. We paid this straight away, which would have been paid sooner had we known we owed money. When asked for another return to be done, we received no reply. When we followed up on them, we received an email telling us that they would no longer do our returns. Very disappointing experience.
