We were here for lunch on a Saturday afternoon, and the dining experience turned out amazing. The lady owner was prompt to serve us and poured water once we sat down. We ordered the lunch special and main, came fast without a long wait. The food was authentic and not overly salty with the perfect balance. Lady owner was keen on feedback as well and super friendly. Highly recommended.
The food is nice. We were served a wrong dish but was quickly rectified. We had 4 dish between the 3 of us and it was just right. The helping is not huge. If you are a big eater, might consider at least a dish and a half per person. However, after saying that, the meal was good. It is quite an intimate environment with low lightings and decorated with chinese lanterns. Parking is easy as you can park at the basement for 2 hours free.
The only good thing about the visit was very friendly and helpful staff However coming to the main topic food was very either bad or below average Spring rolls were average 6/10 Prawn and scallops were bad taste 2/10 Vegetable gyozas were out of stock N/A Hot n sour soup we ordered vegetarian but ended up getting chicken that we ate by mistake which was very disappointing however staff apologised and returned 2/10 Mixed seafood chilli platter - better then the rest 7/10 5 spice calamari very bad taste first time ever had bad tasting calamari - too salty 1/10
For big groups for eg 12 people they don't have round table with the lazy Susan table centre which makes it a bit difficult to be sharing dishes. Fried rice is bland imo. The fried eggplant is the star of the night.
We were a dinner booking of 14 people on 20th January. After everyone was seated,I politely asked the head waiter if they did split bills. He rudely replied that he already told my friend several days prior who made the booking that no split bills were allowed. When food was served,my wife asked if they would be serving rice with the dishes,to which the female maitre d' rudely said "I only have 2 hands" . And the food? Over priced with small portions...
Hands down the best restaurant in gaswork, full of flavours and fragrants. Satay chicken and taiwanese fried chicken are super yummy. No idea why this place is not more busy? Maybe bad fung shu or decor? Good and high end Chinese/Cantonese food. Reasonable price for the yummy food.
Brilliant food, great wine and fantastic atmosphere. Friendly, attentive staff and delicious food! The best that Newstead has to offer! Definitely recommend trying the Duck!
This place really surprised me. The food that was served was so fresh and tasty! The spring rolls were home made and too die for. Crispy duck was amazing and noodles. What's interesting is if you walk all the way to the back there is another area which has beautiful 40s wall decor of Chinese woman from the war. Stunning. Service was excellent and we were served by the owner. This place overlooks the Gasometer and is really pretty at night. Inside or out is wonderful experience. They have a full bar as well if you just want a drink. A recommendation would be walk past the kitchen to see the other hidden areas.
Wish there’s 0 star. I cannot believe they really charge $44 for such a small portion of Peking duck. So small that I can literally finish in one min. No kidding. It’s ridiculous.
Tasty, authentic food in a relaxed environment. Really really yummy. Friendly staff, only suggestion would be more attentiveness to refilling water or leaving water at the table because some of their dishes are quite spicy and our glasses were empty a lot.
