Pedal and Paddle

About

Welcome to Whangamata pedal & Paddle, the home of outdoor adventure in the Coromandel.

Story

Peddle and Paddle is a local bussiness based in Whangamata, NZ. Owner, Chris Coombe, runs the business all year round with a handful of helpful and friendly staff to provide a reliable, and good quality service to the active locals and holidays makers of the area.

Our team:

Chris- Owner: Chris Coombe, known around Whangamata to be the man that can fix anything and everything, as he has a wide and vast knowledge of all outdoor activities and equipment. With over 20 years of experience in multi-sports and cycling, Chris really knows what's he talking about, so if you have got questions he's the one to ask... but be wary, he's a busy man.

Julie- The Boss: Coming from a corporate background Julie is over looks a large amount of events that run from the store such as ladies weekends and corporate weekends.

Zac- The Mascot: Our resident mascot 95 years old in human years (15 dog years) you'll find him pottering round the store, or causing havoc lying in the middle of the pathway. He maybe an old guy now, but Zac still loves roaming round the beach each morning checking out the babes. The place wouldn't be complete without him.

Bruce- The Looks: Having been in the surfing business for over 20 years, Bruce originally had his own surf brand in Taranaki. An expert on the mechanics and build of surf boards he's the one with the know when it comes to the technicalities of surfing and the water activity.

Noods- The Pom: Every good store needs a Pom to keeps things in order and for 2 summers now we have Noods. Head of I.T and admin, Noods makes sure the everything is running smoothly on the floor.

Karlos- The SUP Expert: Stand Up Paddle Boarding is our newest addition to the store here in Whangamata and so is Karlos. Sponsored by one of our SUP Suppliers (Luke Short Designs), Karlos is the guy if you need lessons, tours, or knowledge when it comes to Stand Up Paddle Boarding, just be wary that if the surf is good Karlos is hard to find.

Needed to get a spare tube for my wife's bike as well as a kit. The tyre size that I had written was a little off but the guys there were very helpful and patient. Shop full of bikes and accessories and there are alot if cyclists in Whangamata so it's good to have such a well stocked shop.

Great friendly staff on hand. Gave us some good advise on riding in the local area. Shop stocked most things you needed and a workshop for repairs.

I tried to hire a couple mountain bike to ride Whangamata Ridges mountain bike park. The owner was clearly very busy so handed me off to another staff member saying "he doesn't know what he wants" which was both rude and untrue. I knew exactly what I wanted but they hadn't told me what bikes they had. He also implied I would ride a bike like a 16 year old and bring it back trashed. They offered me a low end hardtail that was far too small then another larger hardtail that was at least 10 years old with rusted fork stanchions and a totally trashed rear hub that wouldn't last another ride. When I pointed out the issue with the rear hub the employee abruptly stated "these were the only bikes they had!" I said "thanks for your time" and headed to Rotorua where we rented two excellent bikes and had an epic day of riding in the Redwoods. I've been riding there for years and have never been disappointed. We returned both bikes in exactly the same condition we rented them! As a very experienced and capable mountain biker that has ridden everything from the north shore of Vancouver and Whistler to most of the top rides in New Zealand over the past 20 years I find it insulting to be treated like this. I've owned many high end bikes and I take care of them just as I take care of rented bikes. If you want to cruise around the streets of Whangamata on a low/mid end hardtail then hiring a bike from this shop would work. If you want to do any real mountain biking I strongly suggest you take your own bike instead.
