This Peace Garden on the boundaries of Ringwood Lake is a sombre reminder of those soldiers that never returned from World War 1. It is designed to “encourage passers-by to reflect on the futility of wars, disturbances and unrest throughout the world and encourage the pursuit of peace for the benefit of all mankind”. More specifically, the garden was opened in 2018 marking the 100th anniversary of Armistice Day, the WWI peace treaty was signed. The garden consists of a small area around which are placed a number of memorial plaques containing information about WWI and Armistice Day. There are also planted trees which are highly symbolic, namely, a Turkish pine of the same species that grew at Gallipoli, and olive trees, the symbol of peace. There is also a Rosemary bush planted there which is a symbol of remembrance. RIP all the fallen. We remember you. We honour you.
