Lovely upscale bistro atmosphere and excellent flavours. Excellent friendly service that never let us run out of water, and promptly fixed and comped one small issue with a dish without us having to request. Most of the menu is gluten free which is great to see. Note- bathrooms have not been renovated like the rest of the restaurant building and it sorely needs it. Could do with more non alcoholic beverage options.
If you come here expecting a decent pub meal, you'll be disappointed. The warning signs were there: Full waitress service, prices that would make your hair curl and not many people in the restaurant. I ordered a vegetarian dish for main course. Cabbage with some brown filling and mushrooms for $36. What came out was pitifully small, what you might expect for an entree. The three tiny mushrooms looked very lonely on the enormous plate. In fairness, it was tasty but barely touched the sides. "Would you like anything else sir?" asked the waitress. I had to bite my tongue in response. A mixture of anger and disappointment must've been written on my face. I see other reviews saying how fabulous it was, but I found it to be a rip-off. Fortunately the drive from Halls Gap to Dunkeld along the southern end of the Grampians National Park was more than satisfying. Vegetarian options: A couple were available
Sirloin Steak Onion, Garlic and Thyme Milk Bread, Vegemite Butter Octopus Rib Eye Steak Bread and Butter Pudding, Banana Icecream Parker St Project is a casual dining restaurant located within the Royal Mail Hotel in Dunkeld. The menu offers a range of seasonal dishes, highlighting produce from their kitchen garden the largest working restaurant kitchen garden in Australia!, orchards, greenhouses, olive grove. Their neighbouring farm Dunkeld Pastral supplies beef and lamb which are born and bred for use specifically in the Royal Mail Hotel restaurants. To start the Milk Bread came with Vegemite Butter, which for someone who doesn’t like Vegemite - loved. The Octopus was very small but delicious, the bbq flavour really came through and the capsicum dip paired well. The Steaks were decent, both a little tough and mine was undercooked. I didn’t like the sauce so lucky I asked for it on the side, the Rustic Chips however were great. Overall it’s a beautiful spot and quite possibly the only spot in town for a fancier feed. If you are around the Grampians it’s worth a visit and their Spring Menu looks lovely. For a more fine dining experience book in advance for Wickens at Royal Mail Hotel, their degustation style restaurant by Executive Chef @chefwickens.
Just brilliant. Amazed at the negative reviews Vs my experience. Top notch wines, attentive service. Food stands above all else. Would come back just for the Vegemite butter. Do not miss the donuts.
One of those never-to-be-forgotten dining experiences. Despite the challenges of the pandemic conditions the chef and staff produced a fabulously original menu perfect for after a day of walking to the top of the Grampians. As for the purple cocktail with the lavender floating on top… not sure if it was legal!
Disappointing. When booking we were asked if we were celebrating a special occasion. Yes, our 14th wedding anniversary and staying in Dunkeld specifically to be close to the restaurant. After being seated we waited almost 30 minutes to be asked if we wanted a drink let alone asked if we wanted to order food. The menu is pricey and riding heavily on the coattails of the Royal Mail's reputation so I had high expectations. The warm olives when they eventually came were nice with our cocktails but it was all down hill from there. Whilst the $48 steak was cooked to my liking it was average at best. A side of fries was an expensive addition and they were also nothing special. We then hung our hopes on spectacular desert to redeem the evening. The creme caramel my husband wanted was sold out so we ordered the lemon meringue tart to share. What we got was literally standard Melbourne bakery tart chopped in half what happened to the other half of it is a total mystery served with a tiny scoop of ice cream? 3 bites and it was gone. All up I would suggest you save yourself $100 and go to Sturgeon View Cafe across the road for some good honest food at reasonable prices.
We ate twice this week at Parker St Project whilst visiting Dunkeld. We honestly couldn’t fault them - the meals were imaginative and delicious using fresh ingredients and so beautifully presented. Our favourite dishes were the sirloin steak, beetroot salad and the milk bun with Vegemite butter - divine! Shout out also to the staff who were friendly, attentive and knowledgeable.
The meals are excellent especially when made from local products, and so tasty.Food: 5/5
Very disappointed with this place, we drove one hour to eat here as a result of hearing good things however we didn’t even end up getting our main. We had already waited 45min since entree only to then be told our order for the rib-eye to share had been put through incorrectly as fish instead not even sure why the fish took that long? Our waitress was new hence we had confirmed with her multiple times that she understood our order but clearly not and tried to even cover up that she had missed the order and said it would be only 15min more. When the managing waitress finally came to tell us it would be another 45min for the rib-eye we decided to leave but then nothing was offered by the venue to compensate for their mistake. Extremely disappointed with the service and the entree that we did have did not reflect the pricing.
An absolute delight! We had heard a lot about the Royal Mail Hotel so when we knew we were in the area we made a booking. We weren't able to get into Wickens as it wasn't open the nights we were there but we were not disappointed after our visit to Parker Street. The dishes are so different from what you normally see on a menu and while we only tried a few will certainly return to try more. Absolutely loved the way the emphasis was on the kitchen garden and all meals were prepared to perfection. Highly recommend the broccoli steak if it is on the menu. While not a budget dining experience, it is not over priced. Service was very good.
