Stumbled across a delightfully little restaurant in Marrickville today when searching for lunch options. I was attracted to it by a hand scribbled whiteboard on the side walk announcing Lao Cuisine. Having never tried food from Laos before, curiosity and that hand scribbled sign got the better of me and we dived on in. We weren't disappointed. The food was wonderfully fresh, well flavoured and nicely balanced. There are no gimmiks here, no Instagram frenzy, no queue for the sake of a queue, just good honest food served by people who take pride in their culture and their cuisine. Must trys : The Lao Style beef jerky. They do the savoury /sweet version here, served warm with a dipping sauce. It's the perfect dish to chew on throughout your meal and as it cooled down it got better! Glass noodle salad with seafood. Super fresh, perfectly seasoned. This salad is everything you need. Deep Fried Icecream . Before you ring up flashbacks of thick batter soaked balls of frigid icecream, imagine a block of ice cream covered in a light pastry case and drenched in coconut syrup. The crispness and crack of spoon breaking through delicate pastry to reveal smooth velvety icecream will haunt my dreams tonight.
Good food. Their crispy rice salad and marinated crispy quail is a must have. For the more adventurous diner I would recommend that beef tartare beef salad and the baby duck egg.
It's a lovely place. I ordered the pork sausage and a salad which I forgot the name, it's actually more like a fried rice with some vegetables the food is generally tasty but will be a little salty once you eat too much. The music is awesome and nice staff.
Great place serving up real Laos food - grilled meats with epic dipping sauce and a good range of salads you won't find in a Thai restaurant! Super excited that this place is doing MALAY CHINESE LAKSA on Monday nights!!
Quick attentive service, fast preparation. Complimentary traditional flavours at an okay price. Will return.
Due to timing and other commitments we were not here for a full meal, but still treated to a wonderful experience and fantastic tasting Lao cuisine. Immensely enjoyed the chicken feet salad $11.90, which perfectly balanced the sweet and spice Laotian salads are famous for. Flavourful and fresh, it is exactly what you look for in a dish like this. Just as highly rated was the grilled Ox tongue $11.90, presented simply with traditional dipping sauces and cooked with a slight pink in the centre - retaining a lovely moisture and softness I find tongue to often be overcooked. Very generous serve, lightly seasoned - beautiful. Staff are very friendly and attentive. Good value for money considering serving sizes and quality. Would absolutely recommend this for both a private meal or a group function. We will be back at the first opportunity for the larb and deserts.
Best food at great, affordable prices.
Good food and reasonable price. Love their sticky rice.
Jack and the crew are super friendly and attentive. Food is off the chain, great prices and we never have a bad meal here. Get the rice salad, the grilled chicken or pork, the duck embryo, the fried ice cream, or the tartare. Get anything actually because it's all good
What a gem! Service is great. Despite turning up on a busy night staff endeavoured to provide a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The food is traditional Lao. Different from Thai, no excessive stir fries or curries but fresh salads and grilled meats instead. Freshness is the key here, as well as simple and we'll executed fare. Top tips? The Lao Sausage and the Larb Gai chicken. Overall, very enjoyable!
