Very solid restaurant with just a couple shortcomings. The staff didn't seem super eager to help really any of the customers. It was the last hour that the restaurant was going to be open for the day, and maybe they were tired, but I expected a bit more given the reputation the place has. Food was great, if you could get it. My first six ! choices for starters and mains were sold out, but eventually I selected the Sultan's Delight lamb chunks on mashed, grilled eggplant and the Spoonmaker's Salad the traditional Turkish shepherd's salad but dressed up with walnuts and pomegranate molasses, both of which were delicious. For dessert I had the Cherry Bread with clotted cream, which was also fantastic. I really wish I could have enjoyed the dishes I actually chose, however... Seems a bit excessive to be out of more than half of your menu. Prices were just slightly higher maybe 20% than other restaurants, but for the ambiance and location, it was completely expected and worth it. I definitely would recommend Pandeli to anyone visiting Istanbul!
Delicious authentic cuisine in a convenient location. The staff were very accommodating and nice to greet us. All of the meals we had were very tasty. Our favorites were the lamb sultan and the grilled sea bass! Definitely add this to the list of things to do when your at the Spice Bazaar!Recommended dishesGrilled Seabass, Pumpkin DessertDietary restrictions accommodatedNot sure
Had a lovely meal here on a Tuesday. Got here at about 6pm and it wasn’t that crowded. Really enjoyed the charcoal grilled eggplant and the roast lamb with rice. The fish ball and mashed beans was so so only. A few dishes were already sold out that time of day. Pricey but loved the experience. Had a great table with a view too! PS - steep staircase to head to the restaurant.. so not for those with mobility concerns.
Just perfect! Every single bite we had was perfectly flavorful. Service is impressively fast during lunch time. Interior and ambience are extraordinary as they maintained the heritage perfectly and you feel like you traveled to beginning of 20th century. Will definitely come back.
A lovely last meal of our trip to Istanbul in the most stunning of restaurants, Pandeli has a timeless, simple, classy elegance that I really liked. From the beautiful turquoise tiles to the unfussy food perfectly prepared sea bass recommended, this was a first rate experience. Just a recommendation that you share a few starters - they are quite big and some would be a little bland if you had one just by itself. Service simple but efficient - couldn't fault it.
We were looking forward to this restaurant. Food is good. Particularly the main dishes and the desserts. Appetizers were disappointing. Giving 3 stars because they rush you with one dish after the other to have the table ready for the next customer. Table turnover seems to be the goal… plan it as a quick lunch … will not return
Our Guide Cengiz took us to this wonderful restaurant when we were at the Spice Market. The Cerulean Tiles gave this historic place such an insta worthy feel. We ordered a couple of dishes to try. The anchovies and rice were really good - it wasn't too fishy at all, and the grilled anchovies had a wonderful umami taste. The Lamb and Eggplants were also delicious, the Turks really know how to prepare their eggplants. We also had this local Turkish licorice liquor that was stronger than vodka, they poured water to the shot and it turned white. Got me in the mood quickly. Definitely worth a stop here for the good food.
Very nice but not sure it's deserving of the cost. It's definitely a white napkin, upscale place located in/above the Spice Bazaar. I actually had a tough time finding it at first because the entrance is truly tucked away hidden unless you know where to look for it. There is a long staircase up to the restaurant. It feels very historic and old - honestly an experience just dining there even without considering the food. The service is fine. I'm sure it would have been better if there hadn't been a language barrier as there was most places I went in Istanbul. The waiters were dressed up which made me feel a bit self conscious about my choice of clothes sweatpants lol but it is what it is. I ordered tzatziki and the lamb with eggplant. Main dishes are around 300 lira and starters around 80 lira. Obviously not expensive by American standards but definitely pricey for Turkey. What was odd to me was that all of my food came out at the same time about 3 minutes after I ordered it. Obviously the tzatziki I expected would have been pre-made but I was a bit surprised that the lamb/eggplant didn't take longer to prepare given the caliber of the restaurant. Nonetheless it was delicious and I was given a massive too big bread basket to soak up the juices. Overall a good meal. Maybe not worth the hype, but still worth a visit.
Went for lunch and it was fantastic. Waited 15 mins for a table for 4 without reservations. We got the okra, zucchini flower, rice stuffed leaves, grilled bass with spinach, and lamb kabab with eggplant.
If you are looking for a relaxed and calm place to eat - you will like this place. A little bit difficult to find as the entrance is inside the market - when you get into the market, look left side for the signs. Service and food were good.
