To be fair, nothing wrong with the food. It’s good but it doesn’t excite me. I can get this in every so-called Japanese restaurant. One notable thing is they have a decent portion. Will I come again? Maybe not, unless they have something different.
Excellent Japanese. Beautiful and tasty dishes. Good service too. Been twice in last 2 months !
The sushis and sashimi are okayI give a pass , mains are all yes all of them below expectation, almost ruin the fine meat …
Amazing food...the chilli fresh tuna sushi roll just melts in your mouth. Tasting menu is incredibly presented and flavors are just on point. You can tell the chef takes pride in both quality, flavor balance and presentation. Their udon noodles are delicious, tofu is silky with a crisp coating. Best Japanese in Melbourne!! Highly recommend.
Always enjoy eating here. Fabulous food and never disappoints. Sushi is fresh, delicious and a great variety. Not overpriced and definitely leave satisfied. Highly recommend this Hawthorn restaurant.
Insta: melbfoodie_mark YT: MelbFoodieMark ** Check them out for more food reviews in Melbourne! - Absolutely worth a try - a Japanese venue located right across from Rivoli Cinema! Such a pleasant visit and staff were friendly and attentive. We tried $54 pp Ohsho Tasting Menu that came out with Entree Kaiseki, Assorted Nigiri & Sashimi, and Eye-fillet Steak and Salmon Saikyoyaki. I really enjoyed Scollop Cocktail and Assorted Nigiris but mains were just mediocre. They weren't bad but I felt like they were subpar compared to Entrees and Second. Regardless, the eye-fillet steak was tender and juicy and the homemade mayo-teri sauce that came with it was just remarkable. Overall, it was good but I don't think tasting menu was worth the price. It's unfortunate because based on the quality of Sashimi and Nigiri I had, I knew it could've been much better. I felt like they could've put more emphasis on nigiri & sashimi which were highlights of the dinner instead of mains maybe, replace them with their rolls?. Next time, I'd love to visit to try their esteemed Osho rolls and Deluxe Sushi Sashimi Platter instead about ~$70 in total in comparison to ~$110.
Just wonderful fresh and wholesome food, beautifully presented. Only minor concern, wine prices a little above average. Overall a special experience.Food: 5/5
4.6 This is a lovely restaurant that serves superior modern Japanese food. Everything works beautifully here. The restaurant space is lovely, only seriously good quality ingredients are used, the dishes are superb in every way, the wine list is great, the service is lovely. It all works superbly. We really enjoyed it. We began with a superb rose from Pfeiffer of Rutherglen and continued with that wine throughout the dinner. This is a wine and a winery we know well from many past trips to the north east. The selection is indicative of the quality on the thoughtfully composed wine list. It’s not a long list, but it’s all good stuff. Our first dish was the salmon tataki. This is a spectacular dish. The salmon is very high quality served with a sliver of chilli on top. The salmon melts in the mouth. We adored this dish and remarked that we’d come here just for this alone. It’s as good an entree as you could order. Next we had a delicately cooked scallop with caviar and ginger. It was small, two scallops only, but beautifully presented and very good. Next dish was the deluxe sushi and sashimi. This was a stunning selection. Spectacular even. Beautifully presented. This kitchen knows their stuff. We loved every piece on this platter. Everything was good but the prawns were the stand out. We also had The Ohsho signature rolls. These too were amazing. They are beautiful rolls. They're are excellently assembled, delicate and enticingly presented. They pack a punch too with some lovely chilli flavour. This was unexpected but it adds wonderful length to the taste of the rolls. I thought the tempura was good. The batter was beautifully light on the prawns but maybe didn’t work as well on the vegetables. The miso black cod was good to finish but was probably one dish too many. Nevertheless, I still had to try the black sesame ice cream which I love. The one here is a beauty. We loved this restaurant. It’s just across from the Rivoli cinemas. How I wish I’d come here after a movie a few times rather than shuffle to the more prosaic restaurants directly across from the movie house. A couple of other observations. It’s a lovely long warm long modern space here. We loved the predominant grey throughout which is very stylish. There’s nice decoration here as well. Overall the space is excellent and it felt contemporary, warm and inviting. My compliments to whoever chose the playlist here too. I never thought I hear old blues standards in a sleek modern restaurant. You’d think Robert Johnson and Japanese food wouldn’t go together, but curiously they do. There were other great music selections on the night as well. The music choices were unexpectedly inspired. Our servers were excellent here. Beautifully efficient and very gracious. They did a marvellous job with us and everyone. We had a wonderful time. The restaurant succeeds in every way. We will definitely return. Our sincere thanks to Ohsho for the invitation to dine here.
We went for the set course menu and if you are hungry we highly recommend avoiding this as the amount is very meagre. It was highly disappointing for the price especially the size of the main course. I basically had 2 spoonful of salmon and my partner had 4 slivers of meat...see cutlery for size of the serve. The chairs are very hard too. Overall taste of the entrees were OK.
We dined at this restaurant in a party of nine on a Sunday evening and the place was busy. We were able to order a large selection of dishes from the menu including sushi platters, the special sushi rolls, kingfish, takoyaki, Nasu dengaku, spicy calamari, udon and rice dishes, miso cod, duck Maryland and meatballs and sukiyaki. All dishes were beautifully presented and delicious. Service was friendly and helpful. Great place for a night out with family or friends.
