Nice bar and restaurant in the neighborhood. Some oysters had slight fishy taste to it. Overall, soft and plump. Fish and chips was delicious. Batter was just enough thickness, fish was fresh. Hostess were attentive. The lack of one star was just the oysters. Will recommend to visit for sure.
Great service, we had the 1.4kg tomahawk steak between 3 people. MUST TRY! The steak was very well cooked and came with 4 sauces. Sauces could do with a bit more variety or choice, something with mushroom perhaps? Decent wine selection, the portion size of the fried squid dish was lacking. Overall a good experience and will be back to try the other steaks.
Lovely discovery today walking in SouthMelbourne. Beautiful sunny day so sat outside this lovely old pub. Ordered the lamb belly and hand cut chips and both were wonderful. All the meals coming out also looked delicious. Inside the pub was lovely too. Will definitely eat here again
3.5 Had dinner at O’Connells Hotel with the family. The kids menu had quite a good few options and comes with icecream. We are here for steaks and there are about 4-5 menu options for that. We had some entrees to share, a tuna cru and scallops. The tuna cru supposedly had caviar, olive crumbs, tomatoes and green beans. Caviar and olive crumbs nowhere to be seen, instead, we got cubes of potato the dish was overall very bland, and there is no texture to it, I don’t even know whether this is tuna since it’s white?! Scallops w black pudding and cauliflower cream was better, however the scallop for some reason left a weird taste in my mouth. hubby and I had eye fillet, both was nice enough, red wine jus served on the side, a small pile of hand cut fries. It’s good, although my medium rare is a touch overdone, hubby’s one is perfect. Kiddos ordered steak and fish and chips. Just beware kiddo found a bone in the fish, the kid is good w eating fish with bones but parents might need to be a bit careful with young kids. The other steak was fine and I love it how both came with lettuce to balance out the fries. Overall, a bit disappointed and won’t be coming back again.
Simply Superb! - Great food, great service all in a relaxed atmosphere. The cured salmon and the lamb belly were great.
Good good foods, well portion delicious. Great service, no rushing well informed staffs. Comfortable seating. Thanks for beautiful dinner.Food: 5/5
Nice Charcuterie board however it did need more bread/toast. service was good. checked the QR codes very nice Sunday afternoon snack
Great vibes, decent food. Good to be outdoors again especially without a mask. Staff was on point, ready to assist and serve. Nice long lunch.
Had a set menu as part of a group booking for 20 or so people. The function room was comfortable but very loud when everyone talking. Service fine but hasty to collect dishes after entree. Food was above average, particularly pate and the scrumptious steak cooked to perfection. 4 hand cut chips with the steak were a bit light on for the price. Lots of sourdough but gluten free bread underwhelming in comparison.
We recently had a function in the private room. The room itself had a very nice ambience as does the entire venue and respects the history and heritage of the building. We expected the manager or head waiter or someone to welcome us and see if we required anything but we didn’t see anyone until we were ready to order. We had to go into the bar and ask for someone to take our order for pre dinner drinks. A grumpy male member of staff who gave off the impression that he couldn’t be bothered slowly delivered our drinks. Not a smile to be seen. Finally the waitress arrived who did a good job considering she also had the main restaurant to attend to. The food off the set menu ranged from mediocre to decent. The flash fried calamari was either not flash fried or poor quality produce. It was very tough! The steak described as medium rare was medium to well done. The other dishes were fine but not memorable. Most lacked flavour and didn’t wow anyone at the table. It was a significant milestone birthday and there was no acknowledgement or anything ‘special’ which many places would do. Overall a below average experience.
