Came here with low expectations because I knew it was cheap food. However, the experience went even lower than what I expected. Walked in and the one guy at the counter didn’t even greet my family and I. We had to find our own table and grab our own menus fair enough, it’s some cafeteria style joint. We made our order and even had the guy repeat it back to me because it seemed like he wasn’t all there whilst taking my order. Sat down and waited. Took around 10 minutes for the first plate of noodles to come out. Around 5 minutes later the second plate of noodles and another 5-10mins after that, the fried rice. And then around 10 minutes after that one of the two mains came out. Our food was getting cold we’re the type of family that likes to eat once everything is served. Tried to grab the waiter’s attention a couple of times to follow up. It was no good. Had to get up and speak to him in person over the front counter. Asked him where the second main dish was and where the white rice which comes with the main was too. He responded with “you didn’t order a second main dish”, despite him clearly repeating it when I asked him to say my order back to me. Anyway, he went ahead and told the lone cook in the back to make it after I showed him my receipt imagine if I never asked for my receipt. Now with the rice, he was adamant that it was separate to the main dish. I showed him the menu which clearly says “served with rice” and he was lost for words… I mean for the most part, he was a man of little words to begin with. The last main dish came out just as the rest of my family finished eating everything else. I downed it with the rice and ran for the exit. Food was mediocre. I’ve had better Malaysian food. Would’ve rated it 2 or 3 stars if it weren’t for the poor service and lack of effort to ensure we their customers were satisfied. To be frank, I don’t think they really care. Wouldn’t recommend the place. I’m never really one to whinge, but this was something else. Steer clear and just go to “Jumbo Thai” nearby if you want a good, affordable feed.
Nice fresh food, made to order. Clean premises. Lovely fresh iced tea. Great prices and serving sizes. We happened to come across this place and were so glad we went in. Lots more on the menu that we didn't get to try yet- would be happy to come back. Great location in Pyrmont. Thank you for the lovely meal.
Extensive menu for much missed Malaysian food. They have a hot food bar as well as a la carte. I ordered the lamb satay they ran out of chicken, nasi lemak and air bandung rose flavoured drink with herbal jelly. The last item was my favourite by far because it's not easy to find in Sydney. Nasi lemak: 7/10 as the rice was not fragrant ebough and didn't taste fresh. Satay: would give it 6/10 but I'll give it 7.5 because the peanut sauce was good and the BBQ taste was there; it's just that I'm not a lamb/meat person.
Food taste good. Friendly and quick service. Satay chicken 7/10 Biryani chicken 8/10 Prawn sambal petai 7/10 3 layer bandung came in 2 layer but still taste fantastic 8/10
Went to do a take away for nasi lemak bungkus. They made it fresh when I ordered so it was still warm when we got home. Wanted to try their laksa penang too but dah habis! But the nasi lemak itself was so authentic. Reminds me of the nasi lemak that I used to buy from the roadside makcik. Highly recommended for a delicious and authentic malay dishes. The service was friendly too!
Very authentic, delicious and beautifully made pineapple tarts, taste just like the peranakan ones that I grew up with in Singapore. Great for Chinese Lunar New Year celebration. Took some googling to discover a business in Sydney that would make these tarts so am very glad to discover Ikhwan Cafe. Appreciate the baking skills as these tarts aren’t easy to get right at all.. and I also couldn’t find anyone else in Sydney who makes them. I think if advertising goes further to target more Malaysians and Singaporeans community here, would be a super big hit. A lot of people may not know it’s also called Tart Nenas, : perhaps adding “Pineapple Tarts” as label and in any social media advertising messages would help a lot. Ordering process through Sal was smooth and easy. Staff were friendly when we turned up and offered samples of other delicious cookies they made. Also served very authentic Teh Tarik tea : Thank you very much
My friend ordered me the pandan gula melaka cake. Omg. I'm mighty impressed - it was light and fluffy ... not too sweet and you can really taste the gula melaka and pandan which means they were very generous with the ingredients making the cake.. and the fresh cream oolalaa... delectable! Highly recommended. It was my first time trying the cake and I will recommend them to the highest bidders!
Came here in late March 2022. We ordered the migoreng and chicken rendang. Migoreng was not tasty at all and was way too oily. Chicken rendang was so so. Nothing special. Something must have changed since the 5 star reviews below were given. New owners? Or a new cook on the day we came?
I had lunch here after visiting the museum. Nice place for lunch. Reasonable price with nice food and staffs
The place is nice and clean. The service is great. Definitely a place to visit and try
