Not a great renovation. Found out it’s been sold to by the council to private owners and not even owned by the council! That’s why it’s so bad, cheap and lacking of generosity regarding keeping their bills down by making the spa cold even when they are raking in cash. Who made a quick buck off of this? Outside only has one pool because they’ve deleted two of the outside pools and the place looks like it’s built cheap as chips. Cheapest options. The lockers charge for more than 2 hours and can’t use cash for them or pay for them at the counter. The outdoor chairs are good but should add some more of them. They even made the outdoors area smaller and have cut off the whole corner of the property which could have fit another pool that they could have made into the kids pool so they could use that like the original pool had. Then normal people could use the lap pool and kids could have their own pool. Only one pool outside is terrible! You can’t make the pool smaller and expect people to be impressed. No one wants to use that warm indoor lap pool anyway. But as I said this renovation was all about greed and making money, not about making the best possible aquatic centre for the public. They know that saunas aren’t big enough and should make them bigger or make two but the sauna doesn’t look big enough. The hot pools room is nice with big windows and tiling but the water is Luke warm at best! It’s not even hot in the spa why.. a spa that isn’t even hot. The nanny state excuse that they’d give you is probably that it’s for safety or some fib like that, which they use for everything but they are probably just trying to save money by not making the spa hot enough. Also an outdoor pool shouldn’t be heated at all. Like the original. The Darebin council only cares about making money for themselves and has for sure made lots and saved lots in dodgey ways making this place too. Kept the extra cash for themselves maybe.
I recently had the pleasure of visiting & joining the Northcote Aquatic & Recreation Centre, and I can confidently say that it exceeded my expectations in every way. The facilities are of such a good quality, offering a range of options for gym goers/swimmers of all levels. The clean and well-maintained pools, gym along with ample space for relaxation and leisure, create a welcoming environment for both casual visitors and serious swimmers and gym goers. What stood out to me the most was the outstanding customer service. The staff members were incredibly professional and friendly, making my onboarding and ongoing visits even more enjoyable. I especially want to highlight Michelle on the front desk, whose warm demeanor and knowledge of the facilities/services made a significant impression. She was not only attentive to all guests' needs but also went above and beyond to ensure we felt comfortable and supported during our time at the centre. We have enrolled for my son’s swim lessons with Bronte whom is enthusiastic, patient and great when it comes to making kids feel comfortable and safe in the pool. Overall, I highly recommend the Northcote Aquatic & Recreation Centre to anyone looking for a fantastic place to swim and unwind. The combination of high-quality facilities, breadth of offering and attentive staff makes it such a great destination. You only need to visit some other neighbouring aquatic centres to really appreciate what Northcote offers!!
Disgusted at how many people you let book entire lanes and take lessons, legit swam for 10 minutes and got kicked out and Ive been member since day dot and I can’t get a work out in it’s the same story every time! You don’t respect your direct debit members, you take the money straight out and I have no rights to a workout! i spent more time trying to park my car in the demolition derby you got going in the car park, you legit have more electric car spots then disabled like it must be pretty convenient to be able to afford an electric car isn’t it??? Free up the lanes it’s not one bit fair or functional for members… I started swimming because you’re gym is a lost cause, the only good thing about this place is the pies they sell in the canteen
If you are immune compromised do not go here! I was quite literally counting down the days for this to reopen as I live 500m from the space. I am so disappointed. Each time I’ve been, I’ve gotten sick. The place is so disgustingly unclean. Like highway petrol station toilets dirty. I seem to be the only one actually wiping down equipment, staff included. Classes are incredibly hard to get into, being booked out so quickly. The sauna is terrifyingly crowded, especially if you would like to keep others sweat from raining on you, let alone sitting down directly after someone else. Ew. The steam room smells awful. I cancelled due to illness and injury and still had payments coming out, it took numerous conversations and complaints to have this fixed, while I was in hospital, and obviously had not attended in that time. After reading all of the comments before me, it has solidified my choice to not return. And yes people driving in and out of the facility have been prone to causing accidents especially if they’re turning right. What a shame! Ultimate disaster.
The pool has a lot of potential, and the new design is beautiful with great facilities, however it is currently let down by a couple significant but solvable! factors - primarily, at the moment there is insufficient cleaning, areas such as toilets and change rooms including the all genders spaces become filthy throughout the day - on quite a few occasions there have been no clean spaces at all to change, with there also frequently overflowing bins and dirty floors. There has also been insufficient indoor lap lanes sometimes only 2 lanes, and lap swimmers have been, on numerous occasions, deterred from the far lanes by large groups of teenage boys doing bombs and flips that exceed the recreation lanes - there seems to be little attention paid by the lifeguards. If regular cleaning could be maintained, and the lifeguards ensure lap swimmers have safe access to their lanes, the pool would be a great facility!
Great facilities however I feel you guys should really manage the parking better. During peak times you have petrol cars parking at the charging bays. See photos Have already been mentioned many times but yet you guys choose to ignore the feedback from your members Please action
This recreation centre is the best I've ever been to! Absolutely state of the art facilities, fantastic pools, friendly staff and hyper clean facilities. Having gone weekly for the past year I truly cannot comprehend some of the negative reviews/feedback this recently renovated centre has received. Some people have absolutely no idea how good they've got it! I cannot recommend NARC enough!
Would not recommend coming here. The place is often filthy and unclean. There has been several cases of GASTRO INFECTIONS in the pools! Cryptosporidium to be exact, see my pictures below for proof The dry and wet sauna are way to small and constantly packed with people. Although it's a new facility the spa and sauna is constantly dirty and unhygienic. The showers in the change rooms regularly run out hot water during busy periods. Not to mention the showers near the pools which hardly work at all most of the time! The management of the centre will try and lock you into unfair contracts and then charge you to cancel. I got charged over $70 months after I sent them an email to request that my membership be cancelled. This is actually illegal under consumer affairs and they still tried to weasel there way out of it. Very bad customer service that seems more interested in making money and locking people into Gym membership like contracts so they can charge you even when you've stopped using the facilities. I'd avoid getting GASTRO and just go to the COLLINGWOOD LEISURE CENTRE which is only down the road and has way nicer customer service and facilities... and as far as I know no GASTRO!
I need to thank the designers of this renovation for adding noise reduction elements into the redesign. It's one of the quietest indoor pools with minimal echo. It's much more sensory friendly than any other indoor pool I've been to. The lighting is nice too, not intense like other pools. I'm also so happy that an outdoor area, outdoor pool and grass area was retained because that was always the best part of this pool in summer. The only major issue with this place is the warm not hot spa, which seems to make people livid. My friend didn't want to come back because the spa wasn't hot enough.
Check out the review below me, what a sook. FFS, some people will never be happy. This guy would probably complain if he won the lottery. This is a great facility for a local council fitness center. It’s not a premium health club you’d spend $300 a month on, let’s align our expectations to what we’re paying. Yes it does get packed but that’s because it’s good. Another outdoor pool would be good but the council isn’t made of money. Great value spot with good staff. If you don’t like it don’t go, more room for me in the sauna.
