Perfect location just at the foot of Mount remarkable. Multiple trails are at the door step. Delicious food and good range of beers. Super fast service. The deck is perfect for an evening meal, drink, or any time of the day. The ensuite is disability wheelchair friendly and very spacious.Rooms: 4/5
We had a reservation for dinner, it was our first time at the North Star. We didn't know where or who would seat us so we stood at the bar awkwardly for 10 minutes without any acknowledgement by the two female staff. It wasn't until I called out that we were pointed to our table. The food was OK, my friend's Thai salad was so far removed from a Thai salad though my battered fish was reasonably good. Such a gorgeous pub, historic & the care factor zero of the staff would seriously deter us from returning or recommending. Owners/managers either need to put a rocket up their butts for anattitude change or training.... or both.
Pub is a beautiful building. Staff were lacking in any hospitality skills. Baked Barra with Asian salad was inedible. Fish was raw and I suspect still frozen. Asian salad consisted of rice noodles and little else. No Asian flavour at all. A blob of herb butter on the side. Dreadfully presented - this meal will go down as one of the worst meals I’ve been served . Everyone else’s meals looked equally uninspired.
Booked accommodation for the RedTruck on way back from Wilpena Pound. Arrived at the North Star hotel around 2.45pm. Tried side door.. locked!.. tried front door.. it opened so we walked in but it was dark and no one was there!!.. walked outside and called the hotel. No answer! Went inside again and called the number… the phone in the bar rang.. no answer. We checked the arrival instructions and it said that check in was 2 pm.. by this time it was around 3pm. Then the substitute chef for the night walked in after hearing the phone.. he was surprised to see us as they don’t open until 4 pm on Wednesdays ! ..we told him the door was unlocked. He immediately locked the door in the faces of 3 other people who wanted to get some food and drinks. He also didn’t know anything about the accommodation side of it. After calling the owner- who was on their way to Adelaide apparently- we were finally given the key to the accommodation. About that… having to go outside to the bathroom is definitely not what we were expecting when we booked this place!! .. and it was raining all night. Very ordinary accommodation. Later around 6.40pm we went to get some dinner at the hotel. Only one guy was serving at the bar and quite a few people were lining up to order- but no one was there to take orders. We waited for a while and then thought we’d get a table that wasn’t reserved. Found one without a reserve sign and sat down. My partner then tried to find a menu back at the line up… eventually got one and we decided what we would get. I went to line up to order and the woman who had finally arrived to take the orders went over to the bar area to assist the one guy serving a lot of customers drinks. It was some minutes before she came back. Another person jumped in front of me to ask where her table was… and then the woman told them the table number that we had been sitting at! Then she came to me and I asked about the table that didn’t have the reserved sign as we were sitting there. Her response was that I should have come to the bar first as they were completely booked out. She also said that she was busy and on her own so there was only so much she could do. There was no one available to talk to at the bar when we arrived- she certainly was not there. Seriously! Overall really poor customer service together with a dismissive and couldn’t care less attitude. Maybe employ more staff and experienced staff who know how to treat guests…. and it’s probably not a good idea to leave your premises unlocked and open since closing time the night before!! Also having someone to greet guests.. or at least a contact via phone.. rather than leave them wondering what the hell is going on is a no-brainer. Never again!
We've been coming to this pub for years. Have noticed lately the quality of food has declined. The pub is nice on the inside, service was OK. Food, well average at best. Probably won't come back unfortunately.
The decor was amazing but our food wasn’t. We spoke to two people about the meal we had with a Barra steak and Thai noodle salad, mentioning that the salad had no Thai favouring whatsoever . We wouldn’t normally rate low preferring to speak personally and give feedback directly. Unfortunately we felt that the feedback was ambivalently received.
Awesome looking place and a great place to have dinner! They have entertainment during your meal and the food is delicious. Definitely recommend but I must say I have never stayed over nightService: 4/5
Had an awesome meal up at the North star hotel in Melrose. Absolutely fantastic food and atmosphere. Will definitely be planning another trip to Melrose soon even if it's just to come for the food.Service: 5/5
We stayed at one of the trucks, what a fabulous idea and we absolutely loved the design of it, extremely affordable too!!! The food at the pub was average, but it has a Wild West vibe to it which is cool
Just a lovely welcoming hotel, feel like one of the locals as soon as you step in. Walkability: Just a short stroll from the caravan park. Food & drinks: Always a delicious meal, bar and waiting staff are friendly and polite. Not that it's needed because the meal sizes are extremely generous, but one of the only places that serves complimentary warm bread rolls & butter.
