I was hoping that Balwyn Road Family Medical Centre would be my next local clinic, however, I did not have a pleasant experience with Dr Ahmed Mahdi. Last month, I presented with quite severe Bronchitis symptoms where I had lost most of my voice, was coughing through the night and sleeping for 14-16 hours each day. At the time, I was struggling to complete my Masters assignment and received confirmation from my university to apply for an extension. All I needed to submit the extension form was to upload a doctor's note, and I hoped that Dr Mahdi could assist with this. I initially had a telehealth consult with Dr Mahdi, who prescribed antibiotics despite his reluctance to prepare a doctor's note, on the basis that he'd seen previous students requesting extensions when they were not sick. As a dedicated Masters student who, up until now, has never asked for an extension and was presenting with heavy symptoms, I felt Dr Mahdi did not have the compassion to believe that I was indeed very sick and telling the truth. To resolve the matter, the receptionist advised to make an in-person appointment where I could show Dr Mahdi my symptoms. The receptionist was kind to apologise and said she could hear how sick I was over the phone, as I was unable to speak loudly or clearly without a voice. The in-person consultation with Dr Mahdi only lasted a few minutes and was more administrative than clinical. Dr Mahdi requested my student details for him to complete my extension form himself, as he did not want me to complete it, and the consult came to an end. I felt that this appointment could have easily been taken over the phone. I was also hesitant to hand over my student details, as it contained identifying personal information. However, Dr Mahdi said that was the only way he would complete the extension form. After the consultation, I was surprised to be charged a new patient fee of $80 without being informed prior to making the appointment. The receptionist on the day explained that they were not able to charge for my earlier telehealth appointment, as it took place over the phone, however I was owing them a new patient fee as soon as I set foot in the clinic. I was under the impression that this was a bulk bill clinic and was disappointed that this fee was not explained to me. Overall, my experience here has been quite possibly the worst experience I've had at any clinic. It has caused me stress, time and money just to get something quite simple done. The other doctors here may be more compassionate, but unfortunately based on my personal encounter with Dr Mahdi I could not recommend this clinic. The only positive would be the receptionists who took my call over the phone when booking my telehealth appointment. They were kind and really lovely.
Would NOT recommend this clinic or Dr Ahmed Mahdi. As the other reviewers state regarding mental health my partner visited due to experiencing anxiety and issues surrounding his disability. After returning to the clinic to rule out any underlying issues through blood tests he was told that his issues are probably psychological with absolutely no further support or options offered. My partner had to ask what the next steps were and suggested that it probably relates to his disability which he required support with. Dr Ahmed did not offer any suggestion or support just pointed my partner in the direction of the nurse to explain, yet again, his disability and need for assistance with the NDIS. What is the point of practising medicine when you don’t attempt to support the client through advice let alone diagnosis/additional supports/mental health plan. My partner left feeling defeated, deflated with no outcome or direction as to wheee to go next. Save your time and your self advocacy and go see a real professional!
Really wouldn't recommend this place or Dr Ahmed Mahdi. I originally went to see Dr Mahdi because the centre's website said he had an interest in treating mental health, which was what I was struggling with. Absolutely wouldn't recommend if you have shaky mental health. Within a couple of minutes of meeting him for the first time, he casually asked me if I had been molested as a child!! Excuse me?! Is that something you usually ask when you meet new people?! Talk about being absolutely NOT trauma informed. That sort of info isn't something he needed to know to write a mental health plan, nor was it any of his business. I was utterly dumbfounded. I saw him a couple more times as I was trying to get my medication dosage right. There was instance where he shamed me for not being able to afford an ongoing $60/month prescription, despite me telling him multiple times I was on a low income. They offer an online prescription repeat service where you can order a repeat online and go pick it up from reception after they text you to say it's ready. I tried to do this the other day, however, when I went to pick my script up they didn't have it, and I had to wait for the doctor to be finished with his current patient so that they could print a new one - completely negating the point of having a prescription pickup service. The last straw for me was when Dr Mahdi came out to the waiting area, said he couldn't find me on the system even though I'd been there multiple times and asked if he had ever seen me before and if I was even a patient of his. Well, not anymore I'm not. Absolutely unbelievable, zero care for patients.
I have been a patient for a few years and I am beyond amazed with how warm and welcoming the staff and doctors are! I cannot recommend them more highly!
Dr. Ahmed is one of the best Doctors I have seen in my life. He take care of every single detail. I have moved to another state but I still prefer to consult with him by phone appointment.
Dr Ahmed Mahdi is a fantastic doctor. He has treated me for many years. I could not speak higher of this doctor who always goes above and beyond. I would highly recommend him to anyone.
I took my husband to see Dr. Mahdi this afternoon as a new patient there. He was very caring, understanding and listening good doctor.
The doctor and staff at this practice are just fantastic! They made the entire process for my family and I seamless and they were so well organised. Clearly, everyone at the practice works really well and they all talk to each other so I never had to repeat what was going on. Talk about an incredible CRM. Just wanted to personally thank the doctor and all staff there!
I was parked out in the car park waiting for my appointment and the owner came out and threatened call the cops on me and my family if we didn't move, I tried explaining that we have an appointment, but he just kept being very rude and wouldn't listen to us. If this is how the owner treats customers I don't want anything to do with this place.
Wait time is terrible even with booking, wasting your time. Makes you wonder why you need to book. Very inefficient managing time and appointment. Even other walk-in GP clinics with no appointment system has minimal wait time.
